"Diane...right?" I hear a voice behind me as I open my car door. I turn around to see Billy.
"Yeah, and you're..." I trail off like I can't remember his name.
I see him taken aback at the thought I don't remember him, "Billy. We met at the party on Halloween...?"
"Oh, of course! You're keg stand boy!" I giggle. I completely remember Billy, but I figure I'd humble him. He's gotten quite an ego for himself, so I've heard.
"...Keg stand boy?" He asks furrowing his eyebrows, he leans his shoulder against my car.
"You know, um, that's how it's down Hawkins!" I mock him. I smile at his amused face from my impersonation.
"Is that what I really sound like?" He laughs shaking his head.
"Oh yeah, I just haven't found the right amount of douchey-nes-" He cuts me off.
"I'm a douche? You don't even know me." He says crossing his arms over his chest, making his appear larger.
I copy his stance and lean my shoulder against my car as well, "That's what everyone says."
He walks closer to me, our noses barely touching. "You always listen to what everyone else says?" He asks, his voice barely above a whisper.
I take a peek at his pillowy lips and back to his eyes, "You're always wear jeans two sizes too small?"
He looks at me for couple more seconds, "I don't know what it is about you, but you intrigue me."
I intrigue him? What the fuck.
"Do I now?" I smile slight and raise my eyebrow.
God, he's so fucking hot. His blue eyes pierce into mine and it makes me legs feels like jelly.
"What the fuck are you doing, Hargrove?" I hear a voice very similar to Steve's and oh so help me if it's Steve I'm goi-it's fucking Steve.
Ever since him and Nancy officially ended things him, we've gotten closer. Which, trust me, I'm not complaining, but right now? Fuck yeah, I'm gonna complain.
"Are you trying to make her your rebound, Harrington?" Billy questions.
Steve shakes his head and the two boys puff there chests out to feel superior.
"Trust me, she's way too good for both of us." Steve says, clenching his jaw.
I'm honestly baffled by what I'm witnessing and the amount of testosterone is making me uncomfortable, so I get in my car and pull out of the student parking lot. I look in my rearview mirror to see the boys' dumbfounded expressions which are quite comical.
I stop by the gas station on my way home to get gas and some snacks. I quickly run inside to pick snack for Dustin and I, pay, and then head back outside to pump my gas.
I'm in my own little world until a familiar blue Camaro aggressively pulls in. I recognize it as the the one that drove passed me as I was pulling out. I'm curious as to who drives it. I finish putting gas in my tank and walk around the pump to get the window wiper when I hear a familiar voice yelling. I look over to see Billy yelling in the window of his car. I observe his car and see a California license plate. Woah, who knew he was a west coast boy. He looks up and sees me.
"Oh...hey." He smiles slightly.
I laugh, "I'd hate to be whoever is in the car." I walk closer towards him.
"It's just Max." He sighs, a look of disgust crosses his face.
I recognize the name and peek inside to see a girl with long red hair.
"Madmax." I mumble, thinking of Dustin. I look up to see Billy giving me a puzzled look.
"Nothing. I didn't know you had a siste-"
"She's not my sister." He says darkly. I furrow my eyebrows at the rage he has towards his sister.
"Okay? Well, I better get home to my little brother. He's waiting on his snacks." I say turning by back and walking away, but his voice stops me.
"Who's your brother?" He asks, his face weirdly worried.
"Dustin. Curly hair, usually has a baseball cap on, bikes home. I don't know why, but he insists that he doesn't want me to take him home." I laugh. I look at Billy to see slight guilt in his eyes.
"Why do you ask?" I mumble, panic shreds through my body. Did something happen to him that I don't know of? Is he okay?
"Nothing! I just wanted to know. I think him and Max have been hanging out." Billy informs me. I smile at the thought of Dustin making friends.
"Awh, well I better get going. Bye Billy!" I smile and walk to my car, pulling out of the gas station.
As soon as I get home, I go into Dustin's room to ask him about what movie he wanted to watch tonight, but I lay my eyes on something I can't explain.
I let out a scream at what Dustin is holding in his hands. I see a slimy worm creature crawl around, but flip at my reaction.
"Do you not know how to knock?" He yells at me. He quickly puts it back in a tank and glares at me.
"D-Dustin, what is that thing?" I say in shock.
He rolls his eyes, "That thing, has a name and it's Dart."
He named it?
"You named it?" I shriek. I watch it in the tank as it hides in the shade.
"Can you be quiet!" He yells back at me. I nod my head not taking my eyes off the worm.
He sighs and sits at his desk chair, "I found it in the trash cans Halloween night. He looked scared, so...I brought him here."
I sit down on his bed and put my head in my hands, "Mom's gonna kill us."
I hear Dustin get up abruptly, causing me to look up at him, "As long as she doesn't know about him, she won't!"
I swear my brother is a maniac.
"You have an unknown creature in your room, that could possibly be dangerous!" I say getting up.
He shakes his head and pulls out a bunch of library books. I'm surprised the library even lets him check out books anymore, due to him never returning them. I watch at he flips through all of them.
"From my research, it seems to be some new version of a pollywog." He informs me, pointing to one of his books.
I study the passage and Dart. "Who else knows about Dart, Dustin?"
"Only us."
"Can you keep it that way?"
He's quiet and looks at his shoes, "I mean...I'd like to tell the part-"
I grasp his shoulders and become eye level with him, "You can't, okay? I'm gonna talk to somebody about thi-"
"Bullshit! You can talk to people about Dart, but I can't? I found him, don't take the credit!" He shouts.
"I'm not taking credit for some slimy worm you found in the trash, Dustin!" I match his tone. As I do, I hear the door of Dustin's room open.
"What are you two yelling about?" Our mom questions, staring at us with wild eyes.
"Nothing." Dustin and I say in unison. She stares at us for a couple more seconds.
"Alright, dinner should be ready in half an hour." She says as she slowly walks out of his room.
"Way to make it obvious!" Dustin exclaims, shaking his head.
