"Don't laugh! You scared the hell out of me!" I exclaim at Steve sitting across from me. He takes a bite of his burger, he's struggling to chew through his laughter from the event that happened maybe 15 minutes before.
"Your face was so funny!" He says after he could finally swallow.
I shake my head stifling my laughter.
"Where were you coming from?" He asks after a couple of seconds.
I can't tell him I went to see Hopper, "The mall."
"Why'd you go through my neighborhood? Isn't yours like a straight shot from the mall?" He questions taking a sip of his soda.
Fuck.
"I felt like driving and listening to music." I smile and he nods his head.
I like being around Steve. I don't feel so stressed.
"How was the mall?"
"What?"
"The mall...the one you went to?"
"Oh! It was eh...I didn't see anything I liked." I muster up. I feel bad for lying to him, but I can't tell him about Dart.
We're quiet again as we eat, but I decide to pipe up. "How have you been doing lately?"
Steve smiles, "Really good actually! Hanging out with you has helped a lot. You're really fun to be around."
I feel myself begin to blush and I cover my face with my hand, "Thanks." I mumble.
"What are you doing? Don't hide your face...y-you're too beautiful." Steve stutters out and my heart skips a beat.
I smile at him and he gives me one back, "Thank you."
Steve nods his head and runs his hand through his hair. Maybe Steve is better for me than Billy. I can tell all Billy is is trouble, but that about him makes me drawn to him. Then again, Steve is safe and I'm comfortable around him.
"What are you thinking about?" Steve asks.
I take a bite of my fry, "Life, you know!" I smile.
"I wanna take you somewhere."
I furrow my eyebrows and give him a puzzled look.
"It's my favorite place, and I'll think you'll like it."
"Okay." I laugh.
Even after all my arguing, Steve payed for our meals. I also let Steve drive my car, which makes me anxious. By the time we get to Steve's "spot" it's dark and I'm beginning to get worried as to where we're headed. Steve parks and I'm confused why because all I literally see is trees.
"We're gonna have to walk a little bit." Steve tells me.
"Is this your plan on killing me?" I laugh.
"Maybe." He laughs too.
We keep walking and finally Steve stops at a small cave by a creek. Steve walks in and I stay outside of it. I'm really not in the mood to get attacked by a snake or anything else. I smile when I see a spark of light in the cave and Steve holding up a lantern with a huge smile on his face. I walk in to where he is and I see blankets scattered on the floor.
"How have these not gotten gross?" I laugh.
Steve gestures to a box, "I keep them in there."
I'm surprised no ones found this little fort. I'm glad no one has though because the proud look on Steve's face makes me happy. We sit down and listen to the crickets outside.
"You're the first person I've taken here, you know?" Steve says picking at the blanket underneath him.
I'm taken aback by that statement. Nancy and him dated for a year and he never thought of taking her here?
"Not even Nancy?" I question.
I see a tiny wave of sadness wash over him as he shakes his head, "She never understood things like this. I guess we had more differences than I thought."
"I'm sorry." I sigh, giving him an apologetic look.
Steve just shrugs and I feel guilty for being Nancy up.
A cold gust of wind hits and I shiver slightly. Steve notices and a worried look crosses his face, "You cold?"
I nod, "Just a little."
Steve quickly takes the blanket underneath him and places it on me. He also moves from being across from me to right next to me. I feel him slip his hand around my waist and it feels like my body is vibrating.
Who knew the Steve Harrington would be interested in Diana Henderson?
I glance at Steve to see he's already looking at me. He leans in, but stops abruptly, "Can I kiss you?"
I smile and press my lips against his. Steve's hand moves to my jaw and deepens the kiss. He's a lot gentler than some of the guys I've kissed and I like that about him.
