Chapter 1
I hear a giggle somewhere in the dark,
"Shhhhh, you're going to get us caught." Michael whispers, quieting Katherine.
Michael, Katherine, Bailey, Damien, and I - Clarisse- are currently pressed against the bars that encircle the closed down pool.
"Why do you think they closed it anyway?" Asks Bailey, grabbing two bars and fixing her stance, I shrug.
"Who cares."
"I heard that a boy disappeared here and now everybody is too scared to even dip a toe in." I hear Damien from behind me, his face pressed against the bars as if wanting to get a better view.
"How the heck would a boy disappeared in the water!" I ask, rolling my eyes, idiots! He shrugs,
"You never know." He tells me. Katherine is at the edge of the pool, already over the fence, with her feet in the water,
"Hey, Clarisse! I dare you to jump in."
"You crazy! That water is 8 feet deep. I can't swim!" I scream back. She just laughs,
"That's why you should starts learning before it's too late." She tells me, with a smirk. I scoff, but at the same time try to hide my voice from shaking,
"Yea right, unless it's a kiddie pool and I'm wearing 8 pairs of floaters" I pause as if to think about it, even tilting my head back for a better affect "then maybe." I reached for the top and heave myself over.
"Oh sure you will and you'll look like a cow taking swim lessons." Bailey made a huge motion with her hands and snickered, while she was already on top of the fence.
Katherine waved her hands as if to say wait up "oh oh, she'd look like a whale beached by the kiddie pool"
"Nice one Kat, but she is not at the beach" Michael commented, making Katherine's head droop and mumble defensively.
"It's just a joke."
"Okay now! " I stretched my voice out. "No need to pick on the one who can't swim."
Bailey snickered "whatever, come on guys! "
we had finished getting over the fence and started setting up the party.
While the barbecue had been half-way set up and the table was completely set up, an odd crowd appeared from the shadows.
They moved in a loud whispers, quieting each other every few seconds, but failing at it which resulted in loud guffaws. They walked in clumsy trots, always one person bumping into another, resulting in more laughs. They could of woken the whole neighborhood, if this pool wasn't so secluded from the town. As they reached the lights of the pool, their faces were shown. I spied crop shirts, high booty shorts, low buttoned shirts and some men not even wearing any shirts. Yep, it was true, someone had invited the popular group.
You may of not known this, but somewhere in the school, a rumor has been circling around the school of some sophomores that have weeded their way into the well known popular group of seniors. It's mostly based of one girl who had the guts to talk casually with some seniors as if she did this every freaking day.
It had started as any other end of lunch day, were the freshmen scurried of to class, the juniors lagged behind- thinking they were too cool to care- and sophomores in an even pace, not rushing, nor lagging. One senior thought it was funny to shoot a spitball at Damien and to laugh it of, as if it was the funniest thing he'd ever seen. One girl, apparently, had the nerve to bravely shoot out a comment .
