"You don't need to watch my love." I moved to stand next to Hades, to watch what was about to happen.
"I need to." He handed me the umbrella I first saw him leaning on before everything. It was weird to think it wasn't that long ago and now he was my husband. I pushed the emergency stop on this thought train. I would not allow myself to regret this decision. I opened the umbrella and once I was stood under it, the world seemed to go into motion.
It wasn't right though; the rain didn't fall down; it rose up.
I watched my father go from sat motionless to speaking on the phone; to me? His actions were in reverse. Before being on the phone I watched him pressing onto my brother, who still lay motionless, but as the seconds rolled back and I watched my brother begin to move, struggling to hold onto his life. The blood covering my pyjamas was disappearing the way it seeped onto me.
Time began to speed up in reverse and I watched Mars fall into our father's arms. That's when the Demon materialised out of the shadows, holding a gun up to my brother. The bullet flew through him back towards the gun, when the bang sounded; it made me jump out of my skin. I felt Hades place a hand on my back to comfort me.
I watch my father and brother run backwards back into the shipping container storage and watch the demon put the gun away and run, back the way my father and Mars ran.
They were chasing the demon through the container storage and when the demon realised he had nowhere else to run he pulled out the gun and shot Mars. Seeing my dad distracted he used the chance to disappear into the shadows. Why shoot Mars though? Why not just disappear to begin with?
The rain began to fall, and time ran normally again. The demon ran around but stopped when he saw me and Hades. I began to shake; I knew I was crying again watching what I had, but the thing in front of me killed my brother, at least, he was about to.
Hades reached out an arm towards him and the demon flew towards him by some unknown force and his neck ended up in Hades' tight grip. Time stopped again, but the demon continued to struggle against Hades.
"You!" It managed to spit out. The demon looks human but at the same time, it looked dead.
"Possession; the body is dead but a demon's soul has taken control." I realised he was speaking to me. Hades turned the possessed face from side to side. "Can you see the black veins? That's the soul trying to keep the body from decaying. Possessions never last long because the bodies don't last." The veins ran along the face deep and black, crawling like snakes. I had read a lot about possessions but never actually seen one myself.
I started to hear sizzling, and the smell of rotten flesh filled my nose; it was disgusting. The possessed looked like he was being cooked alive before flames engulfed his entire body. I had to keep telling myself the human that he was; was dead, and the demon soul would kill Mars. Too soon all that was left were ashes on the ground by our feet.
I took hold of Hades hand looking it over for any burns but there wasn't even a scratch. Looking up into his dark gaze he stared down with a look of fascination. Blood started dripping from his nose. "Are you okay?" I asked worriedly.
"Yeah, just changing the course of someone's destiny can take its toll; even on the best of us." He looked exhausted. "I best leave you now." He looked almost sad, "Go home and be with your family. I'll see you again soon." He came forward and pressed a tender kiss to my brow, like the one he gave me at the church but again this time it was different. My whole body filled with warmth at his contact, and I got a feeling in my stomach I've never felt with anyone before.
"You really need to explain to me what's happened between us," I said not wanting to pull away.
"I will soon; I promise but another day." The rain fell, and I heard footsteps fast approaching us from behind; turning I saw my brother come running fast ahead of my father. I turn back to tell Hades to go but he wasn't there anymore.
I dropped the umbrella that sheltered me from the storm and ran to Mars.
"Saturn-"I flung my arms around him and held him close to me; taking in his peppermint and hazelnut scent. Even though he was wet and cold, I still felt that internal warmth radiate through him.
"Saturn; what are you doing here?" Came my father's voice from behind Mars.
Maybe doing what I did next wasn't exactly necessary, but I had a voice in the back of my head begging me to, and seeing him stood there, confused and a little scared as to why I was there; I couldn't stop myself.
Punching my father in his eye actually felt really good!
My mom always told me not to let my feeling build up.
