Chapter 19
"What the hell is a trine?" I asked Alec.
A slight upward curve of his lips brought my attention to that region of his face. My mind immediately brought me back to when we kissed, his lips were smooth and plump, yet strong and demanding like the rest of him.
"Trine is another word for three." He answered me.
"Someone needs to expand their vocabulary" Will said. He wasn't even attempting to suppress his mocking smirk. I swear, all I was to these boys was someone to mock. I shot a glare Will's way and turned my attention back to Alec.
"So, what is the Trine of Undoing?"
Alec soon grew grim and even Will seemed to lose his cheerful demeanor.
"For you to grasp the full story, I'm going to start from the beginning."Soon Alec and Will were no longer in front of her. The color and light of the room began to fade, until Chloe was surrounded by absolute nothingness. The darkness was dense, and she could not even see herself, as if her eyes were removed from the rest of her body and put into a dark world. She sensed nothing.
No sound.
No smell.
No feeling.
And as if someone had decided to just flick the switch, light burst in front of her and formed into a scene. Mountains became clear before her, the fresh smelling air came rushing into her senses, birds were chirping away in the land beyond the cold mountains. Beyond the rocky, unforgiving terrain stretching before her into the sky, the land with the birds was green and inviting, with rolling hill tops.Somewhere in the Carpathian Mountains, Romania, 906 years ago
***~The werewolves had been presumed extinct for 20 years, along with almost all other species apart from the humans, who were responsible for the massacre, and the Hasarens, guardians of the earth. The humans have only recently stumbled upon the existence of Hasarens. Only one human lived to tell the tale of how his camp was attacked in the night by things that were the farthest from human he had ever seen. The duo that was responsible killed 50 men that night, without taking so much as a scratch in return. He also explained the terrible power they seemed to possess. One hurling fire about, while the other shot purple beams that went right through the bodies of the men.
Ever since the story of these creatures was told, war parties had been sent out into the wild to find these beasts, but not a single man of the 597 they sent had returned. That was nine months ago. They are believed to be dead, and the nobles now fear an attack on the village by this mysterious enemy.~***On the outskirts of the lush green meadow, a speck was ascending up the mountains. This speck was a man named Bane, a thief that had been shunned by his people. A greedy and power hungry man he was, but he had been born in the lower class. Forced to beg and steal at a young age, Bane didn't have much of a choice in who he became. He was taught that gems and money were the key to all happiness.
Bane was looking for jewels in the mountains that would hopefully change his life. It was rumored that one man had struck gold in these mountains, why shouldn't he be so lucky?
Bane was dressed in only a thin torn shirt and pants that were far to small; sewn on patches covered the holes in the fabric. His shoes were nothing more than hide with worn leather soles, and the only thing he carried was an iron pick ax he had stolen from the black smith earlier that week. He was covered in dried mud that matched the color of his eyes and light brown hair. He had a slender build, mostly from the shortage of food in his life.Bane's thoughts were hopeful as he slowly climbed the treacherous mountain. He had slipped several times due to the terrain that he was not equipped to traverse. If night were to fall while he was still on that mountain he would surely freeze to death. But still he climbed on, not quite sure what he was looking for, but knowing it would bring him great fortune.
And how right he was. What he found would not only bring him fortune, but fame and glory as well. For as he reached for the next rock to hoist himself up onto the ledge, he saw just above. He slipped. In panic he reached out with both his hands in hope to grab on to something as he fell. One of his hands caught on a jagged rock, and although it may have just saved his life it cut deep into his hand and drew blood. Bane hissed in pain, but reached for a crevice with his other hand, but paused before he started to ascend again. He heard a bang below him, the sound of metal hitting rock. He looked down and cursed his luck. His pick ax had fallen 40 feet below, and sat on a boulder teasing him.
