Chapter 17
(Devin's POV)
I had been standing there watching this unconscious prisoner for about forty minutes. Brent had taken three other wolves down to the border to clear the bodies and I still had no idea where Alec and Chloe were. Not to mention Will, who had dropped this guy off, told me to watch him, gave as little information about what happened as possible, and took off to God knows where.
I would be lying if I said Will knowing more than me didn't really bother me. I was third in command after all, so what was the deal with some warrior knowing more about the current situation than me? And he was withholding information as well.
When I had asked him what was really going on he told me "not to worry about it" and to "do my job". What the hell was that!?
I had been shaking in anger for about thirty of the forty minutes that I had been watching the prisoner, just trying to keep myself from shifting.
Who did he think he was?! By the way Will carried himself, you would think he was a ranking wolf, not to mention how he easily orders everyone around.
After Will had said those disrespectful words to his third in command, I had asked him who the hell he thought he was talking to, and to watch his mouth. He just sent me a wicked half smile and told me it was "alpha's orders".
I even demanded he tell me what happened, and all he did was sneer at me and walk away.
But, the thing that was really getting to me was the fact that I had just let him walk away. I should have beaten his ass and put him in his place, as any superior would do to those lesser than him, but I didn't.
And now, I had to face the cold hard truth of why I didn't.
I could feel my wolf bow to him as if he were higher ranking than me, more dominant than me, more powerful than me. But, what I didn't understand was why. The day I had gone down the line seeing where my place in the pack would be, I remembered Will. I found him incredibly strange. Although he was pretty far up the line, he didn't even bother to look up at me, which most had at least started to growl at the point where he was. His response was the same as the submissives at the very bottom of the pack, only he wasn't scared. He wasn't shaking like the rest of the submissives or, for that matter even trying to look up at me. He seemed bored with the very presence of me standing before him. The only word I could use to describe what I felt from his body language was.... Tolerating.
And that scared the hell out of me.
When Chloe was going to fight him, I was frightened for her. Quite frankly I wouldn't want to fight Will myself, and it seemed earlier that day, when I was training, that they didn't want me to fight Will either. Jason just skipped Will in the line up to fight me and when I had asked why Jason replied with a shrug and just said "following orders".
When Chloe did fight Will, it seemed as if he were going easy on her, but not completely. It was more like he was teaching her a lesson without actually saying anything. I could tell just by the way he looked at her that he caught every mistake she made, however few there may have been. He wasted no time in making her suffer for that mistake.
I'm the first to admit that Chloe is a damn good fighter, she would even be a challenge for me, but he made her look like a second rate. Something's definitely not right about him. I would usually investigate, but I've been trying not to step out of place since I came into the pack. And Alec would be quick to go at me if I stepped out of line.
It was pretty obvious Alec didn't like me, and I guess I could see why. I'm trying to get him to trust me more, which clearly isn't working because he's still keeping me in the dark. But, I'm going to try and trust him to take care of these issues we are having with the Black Rock Mountain Pack. He was our alpha after all, and it's his job to keep the members of his pack safe.
I was brought out of my thoughts by a moan coming from the prisoner. Well it was about time. He shouldn't have been knocked out for as long as he was, if I couldn't hear his heart beating I would have assumed he was dead. I still didn't understand why Alec had brought back a prisoner, he would just contact his pack when he woke up.
His arm twitched and soon his eyes fluttered open. He looked about half dead and very weak, so there was no need to be on the defensive.
His eyes soon flicked to me and widened and a look of fear crossed his face. He then proceeded to take in his surroundings. Once the realization that he was in a prison cell dawned on him, he attempted to get up. But, just as he got his two feet stable on the ground, he made a sound of pain and clutched his head in his hands as if that's what caused the pain. The next thing I knew his eyes rolled into the back of his head and his body came crashing to the ground.
Well that was certainly the strangest thing I've ever seen in my life. Where in the world did they get this guy from?

Ok, so I know I haven't updated in forever, I've been really busy. Your probably all mad with me because instead of getting answers, you got Devin's POV.... Sorryyy ;)
I also apologize for this chapter being short. I was going to add more to it, but quite frankly I got really mad at this chapter really fast. But, I'm currently on thanksgiving break so I might be able to get another chapter up pretty soon.
