"chan..?" his mother called, knocking at his bedroom door at the middle of the night. he hasn't went out the room
she got the keys from the kitchen, fidgeting with the lock until the right key opened the door. after a few minutes of nervous shaking and putting the wrong keys over and over, she finally opened the door.
the thing is, the window was open, and her son wasn't there.
"chan, where did you go?!" his mother cried while breaking down, causing the tray to fall. she noticed a note at the bed and she immediately stood up, wiping the tears, trying to calm herself down.
it read:
mom, or anyone who reads this, should know that i wouldn't be back. don't worry chaeyeong is with me and i'll keep her safe. don't look for us because you won't find us anywhere near here by the time you read this. goodbye.

"why did we even need to go out, hyung?" chaeyeong asked while walking at the side of a highway, in busan, south korea. chan was dragging a stick while carrying his bag. he'd admit he wasn't really thinking on where to go after escaping his house. he only has his mom and stepdad, which was trying to be close to him, but he always would fail.
"we needed to escape so that we could be free. free from every problem, like parents, school..-" "but would that really solve everything?" she replied, making the twenty-year-old stop. she who was just behind him also stopped walking and sat beside him. chan looked to the view of the city lights and stared at the night sky, never being bothered by the noises of the cars and the often smell of smoke and gas in the air.
"wouldn't we just cause more problems, hyung?" she asked once more, moving more closer, hoping to get his attention and answer her. it was the middle of the night, and the boy is tired of running from the surburbian side where his house is to here, the city. it was a long run, more or less a few kilometers and he hasn't eaten since. chaeyeong looked at him, worry in her eyes. he looked up at her and stood.
"i know where we can go."
he grabbed her hand again, and ran. across the street, through the crowds of people. through the rows and rows of buildings. it seemed like he really knows where they'll go, running with no direction and no maps to help them. they ran, and ran, never letting go of each other.
then they reached a place. something that they never would've expected to be real. across all of the urban buildings surrounding them, they were met with a field of tall, golden grasses with a few flowers accenting the now light blue, cloudless sky. chaeyeong smiled and looked at minho, but frowned again.
"hyung. we'll go nowhere with this." she stopped herself and looked at the beautiful sunrise. chan was in confusion. then what are we supposed to do?
"chan hyung," she audibly muttered after a few moments of silence with such seriousness that the boy couldn't help but look at her.
"i know you wanted an escape. to be free. but this isn't going to solve anything. after this, what now? stay here for all eternity?"
he saw her eyes. her eyes that was still shimmering like the night sky that just left earlier and was replaced with the bright sunshine, and he deemed it too bright for his eyes. she was still facing the now risen sun and again look at the boy who scratched his head with confusion once again.
"chan, let's go back."
"back? why back?! after all we had gone thr---" "bang chan."
and there it was. her determination seeping through, and he seems like it was too.... strong. though he shouldn't be a coward, if he didn't go with her, she'd leave him again. like the last time..
"let's apologize to mom. she'll understand anyways." she pulled his arm and he seemed lifeless. he's feeling down again, and she didn't want that.
"how about we just change schools. so that we wouldn't have to see those... bastards, again." she told him, and the boy just nodded. it may be for the best.
the field was silent once again, and tears stream down from his face, something he was used to by now. something that chaeyeong was familiar in, and even though it was hard for her, she did what she could never imagine herself do. just stare.
it was hard for her to see her brother cry like this. she loved him too much to just stand there, but she had to. she knew she couldn't wipe those tears away. she knew she couldn't hug him and comfort him no more. the reason? it will reveal sooner enough. she needed the right time. the right moment...-
wherein she wasn't needed anymore.
she knew the time will come until that fateful day will happen. and she knew it was coming fast. she felt it.
"hyung. let's go back home. mom's really worried," she said, looking away at the boy who eyes were clearly swollen and red. she couldn't bear to even think what'll happen to him if she said that-
"chae? chaeyeong, are you there? you were spacing out since a while ago," he said, making her startled. he chuckled a bit and smiled widely. bipolar. when will you ever change, chan?
"yeah, yeah, i kinda took a peek and you've been staring into nothing for like five minutes... or so."
it was her time to laugh. she honestly couldn't tell if he was trying to joke or telling a statement. nonetheless, it wasn't delivered properly.
"ah, just stop talking and start walking. let's just tell mom we took an early morning walk." she chuckled and started walking back home.
"yes madam," he replied and flashed her a wide grin, brighter than the sun. these were the moments that she wished were going to continue for all eternity...
