"Rise and shine, my princess. Happy Birthday," a soft voice awoke the now 15-year old Crimson from her deep slumber. A smile painted her lips when she opened her eyes and the first thing she saw was her beloved dad.
"Good morning," his smile was warm and it was enough for her to jump from her bed and attack him in a hug.
"Thank you so much Dad," not minding her morning breath, the man returned the hug and gave her a kiss on the cheek. Pulling away from the sweet embrace, Crimson frowned when she saw her father clad in a sleek suit, his hair neatly styled and it spoke of one thing: he's going home late, again. The thought of not spending a lot of time with her dad on her special day made her eyes glossy. Reading her expression, he placed a comforting hand on her shoulder with a sigh.
"I know what you're thinking, princess. I'll make sure to finish this mission as fast as I could, alright?"
But it didn't convince her. He allowed himself to sit down at the edge of her unmade bed and patted the empty space beside him. Crimson followed his actions before focusing on his next words.
"What kind of missions are they anyways? You never tell me anything about your job," she huffed.
The expression on her dad's face changed into a serious one.
"Princess, it's better if you don't know. In exchange of not asking questions, I'll make sure to buy five boxes of pizza, just for us, tonight. Is that a deal?" he held out his hand.
"D-deal," she hesitatingly took it in hers before shaking it, "And with ice cream too. You promise?"
"Yes. I promise," he said before encasing her in a warm hug. She returned it tightly, "I love you so much, princess."
She smiled not thinking that it would be the last time she will ever hear it.
