"YOURE WHAT?!?!"  Her mother and father scream at her in unison.

"...I'm pregnant"

At 16 Rowan was pregnant. She was pregnant scared and alone.

"Please tell me this is a prank Rowan?! Please! What will our church think of this?" Her mother asked with a mix of anger and hope in her voice.

"It's not.." Rowan whispers, voice cracking, thick with emotion.

Her father's face was red, covered in disappointment. She could practically see the smoke coming out of his ears.

"He told me we were soul mates...we were forever.."

Rowan was always a big romantic. When she was 5 she was running around the playground kissing and hugging anyone who would love her, trying to find her ever after. She always wanted a prince, so when she met Ian, she thought she had found him. Her one and only, her ever after. And when they had gotten serious and he wanted more, she let him. But...now he was gone. Vanished into thin air.

He wasn't the hero in this story.

"Rowan! How many times do we have to tell you!? Soul Mates don't exist! And even if they did, YOU MARRY THEM BEFORE YOU HAVE A CHILD!" Her mother kept screaming. The rage in her voice exploding like a thousand firecrackers, screaming into the night.

By this point her father had left the house. Rowan could see the headlights of the car pulling out of the driveway.

"What will we do," Her mother stopped talking. She turned to me slowly. "We must pray..you must repent!"

Rowan didn't respond.

"What?" Her mother seethes. "Do you not want to enter the kingdom of god, what has that boy done to you?"

Her mother's breath starts to shake and her hand reaches up to cover her mouth. The tears fall one by one.

I'm sorry. Rowan thought.

Her mother turned around in one swift moment and went into the kitchen.

She hadn't cried yet, she couldn't. Not when this was her fault. She let this happen.

Rowan stood up and went to the bathroom down the hallway.

While she walked down towards the bathroom door, she saw all the photos of her as a child. She saw the photo of when she was 7, she had been playing soccer and sprained her ankle. The photo from when she was 8 and lost her first tooth. The photo from when she was 13 and threw a birthday party.

She could see her happiness. She could also see her dissatisfaction. She wanted love, she ran on that stuff. It's what made Rowan who she was.

Now that she looked at herself in the mirror: short wavy brown hair, light brown eyes, light freckles across her nose and cheeks, and pink lips. She didn't didn't know who that girl was at all.

She pulled up her shirt to peek at her stomach. There was no huge bump yet. But as she held her stomach, she felt strong. She felt loved.

She had found her soulmate.
