"You know, it's probably not a good idea to jump from the height."
⠀
⠀
I had just watched Jungkook jump from ten feet in the air, landing in a crouch. He tried his best to hide his grumble when he stuck the fall, but he couldn't fool me.
⠀
⠀
"Mm, okay," Jungkook stood with a sigh, his head thrown back to look up at me, who was shimming down the tree. "...Just jump, Bennie." He held his arms out.
⠀
⠀
I laughed at his opened arms. "I've only officially known you for 3 days, Jungkook. How can I know you can support all this?"
⠀
⠀
I was giving him a hard time, but it's always too damn fun to tease.
⠀
⠀
While in the tree, we just stayed silent. It was weird, come to think of it. Jungkook had odd bouts where he would be over-the-top comfortable with me, then only mere seconds later he would keep to himself again.
⠀
⠀
While up there, he made sure to scoot as far away from him qs possible. Being me, I asked if he was afraid of cooties.
⠀
⠀
He just ignored me.
⠀
⠀
I landed more smoothly than Jungkook, causing me to smile brightly up at him. "Where to now?"
⠀
⠀
"Home."
⠀
⠀
His tone was sharp as he checked his phone. "I try to be in by midnight, at the most."
⠀
⠀
Jungkook began to make his way out of the woods, his footsteps picking up pace. "Yah!" I called out for him. "Midnight is when all the fun begins!"
⠀
⠀
It was that moment that Jungkook turned around and looked at me like I had two heads. "...no."
⠀
⠀
His pace began to quicken, breaths becoming heavy again.
⠀
⠀
"Eh, slow down!" I laughed, now practically jogging. Jungkook turned to me, but still continued to walk faster.
⠀
⠀
However, there was a certain look on his face that I couldn't help but not ignore.
⠀
⠀
I stopped. "What's wrong?"
⠀
⠀
Jungkook's attitude had went from 100 - 0. At this point, I knew it was probably best to just let him be, but of course, I just had to push that envelope further.
⠀
⠀
"Maybe tomorrow, Benji."
⠀
⠀
By now, Jungkook had stopped his jog. We were only a few yards away from his house. He turned and began to continue to jog to the tree that lead up to a window on the second floor.
⠀
⠀
I tilted my head to one side as I began to watch him climb the tree like a spider monkey.
⠀
⠀
"Cautious on getting caught?" I laughed up at him. Jungkook situated himself on the branch by the window.
⠀
⠀⠀
"Good night," he turned his body, grasping the edge of the windowsill.
⠀
⠀
Just leave him be, Benji, I told myself after a disappointed sigh. Even if our time together was short, there was no denying that Jungkook only intrigued me more.
⠀
⠀
He'd been in town for years, but only now I had the chance to find out who he really was.
⠀
⠀
Was it my business, though? No, of course not.
⠀
⠀
This wasn't about that. Jungkook only fueled my fire more.
