Chapter 1

>Flashback<

Shots were being fired from every which way. I couldn't find my way out but I had to find him. He was my best friend i couldn't make it with out him. I was running towards him where he was laying. I looked down and saw the puddle of blood coming from his chest.

"Private, leave me, you need to go home. Eloise is waiting for you to make it home safe." General McDonald said to me. I just couldn't leave him i couldn't. General handed something to me before he died. That was the last moment i will ever see my best friend again.

>3 days later<

I was sitting looking at what General gave me. I couldn't figure it out. He always said once it is gone you can never get it back. I wanted to go back home to Eloise. She's soon having our baby. Our first born. I wrote to her every chance i could get. Today was one of those days I could.

'Dear Eloise,

Exactly 1 week to go until I can come home.

2 weeks until your last appointment.

3 weeks until our baby will arrive.

It feels that every day gets longer every night gets shorter and closer to the time we meet again, I want to be with you. To hold you to cuddle with you and to feel our baby kick. I can't wait until I come home to see you again. Keep my side of the bed warm.

I love you so much Eloise.

Keep our baby safe and feed it good.

I was going home to her soon just not soon enough. Just gotta make it through the nights.

Finally! A letter from Ashton! I ran carefully to the door and picked it up.

Knowing that he will be home before the baby was born was perfect. He would be there for the birth and 3 months after the baby was born. I read the letter 3 times and cried during all 3 times because he was coming home. As I walked up to the nursery the door bell rang. I went to the door and opened it and looked up.

Seeing who was at the door made me burst into tears. Not tears of joy matter of factly.

It was General King holding a bunch of flowers with a symphony card. "I'm sorry to tell you this Mrs. Irwin, but your brother had died. Private Irwin tried saving him but your brother told him he needed to save himself to meet his little baby. I am very sorry. If you need anything i am always here." He hugged me and left. That was the last thing i heard about my brother in 5 years after he was drafted the first time.
