>Ashton's pov<

As if seeing my best friend die wasn't enough just not knowing if Eloise could handle this all in her own. She was very close to her brother. Now she only had me and that baby.

Returning to base wasn't as hard as I thought. You walk up to the gate show your tag and they let you in. You don't salute your commanding officer because snipers could be around and you don't want an officer down. Struggling to carry the rest of the bags I made it to my cot. Shots still could be heard in the distance while helicopters were coming and going. Guys loosing legs to guys loosing life. All I have left is 2 more days. 2 more days until I saw Eloise and the baby. As I laid down I looked across to the cot in front of me knowing he will never be coming back. I slowly drifted to sleep with the memory of my first draft.

>flashback to 8 months before<

"Ashton? We need to talk!" I heard Eloise exclaim. We were both 16 when we met and we got married just a year before now. We're both doing perfectly fine. We live in her parents home that was passed down from generation to generation, we lived by ourselves. Her parents died last May just after we got married. My parents didn't want nothing to do with me because I got married at such a young age. We were 18 when we got married.

My parents didn't like that because we just turned 18 and were only together for 2 years. And now here we are. We're both 19, married and living perfectly. I had my own job since at the time women couldn't work except for being teachers or nurses. Since Eloise's father didn't send her to school, her brother and I taught her everything she knows now. She's a school teacher teaching the little girls and boys how to read and write.

"Ashton!" I jumped and looked at Eloise and she was grinning merrily. "Yes Elly?" I walked over to her and wrapped my hands around her waist pulling her closer to me. "So I went to the doctors today. They told me some good news." She kept smiling big. I gave her a confused look. "Ash, I'm pregnant." She squealed. My eyes widened and I hugged her and spun her around. This was great! We have our own little family.

As the days went on, Ashton and Eloise talked about things the baby would need. Talking early about things was good for them because they never knew when the next time they would get money. They already had something's for the baby that Eloise's parents had saved for one of their two kids to have a baby. The crib, blankets, clothes, and some shoes. What was passed down was just enough for them.

While spending the night together was fun for them, other things came in mind. At 19 years old young Ashton was drafted into the marines. 1 month left with Eloise. Ashton held on to Eloise all night long and every night after.

1 month later.....

Thursday morning Ashton was up before sunrise getting ready to leave. On the opposite side of the room sat Eloise hugging her knees fighting back tears. Ashton couldn't look at her without crying. He hardly looked at her. When he was done, he went and sat next to her. They stayed like this until banging on their door woke them up.

Watching outside as Ashton's bags were going into the car he gave her one last hug. One that she would savor for the time being. Ashton knelt down and kissed Eloise's non existing baby bump and promised to come home safe.

>flashback over<

I was awoken from another general waking me up telling me we had to move we were under attack. I grabbed my weapons and we fled. In my backpack i had my letters from Eloise and pictures of her. We were running, jumping and crawling under everything.

When we arrived to safety I fell to the ground and everything went black.
