Emma walked into her apartment, and fell onto the couch with a huff. Her day had been long, and grueling, but not successful. Her perp had gotten away again. She swore this guy was more slippery than a slip and slide. She had located, and cornered him 3 times now, but every time she lost him in a crowd before being able to confront him. It was not only maddening, but inefficient. She had spent almost 3 weeks trying to catch this guy, but to no avail. On average she spent a little over a week hunting someone down; at this point she was getting desperate to catch him and have it all over with.

"Another late night huh?" Killian asked as he glanced over at the time; 9:30. Emma nodded in response. "Bastard got away again didn't he?" Killian sighed as he plopped down on the couch beside Emma.

"Of course he did. I just can't seem to catch this guy," Emma rolled her eyes. Killian kissed her cheek kindly, and moved her hair away from her face.

"What about some wine love?" he asked, knowing his wife there was no way she would be saying no to his offer.

"That sounds perfect," she said in delight. The thought of wine had already brought up her spirit.

"Thought so. We can have it with dinner," Killian said with a smirk. Emma furrowed her brows together, confused, but got up when Killian pulled her along to the kitchen. Laid out in front of them was a perfectly plated steak dinner.

"What is all this for?" she asked admiring what was on the table. They always tried their best to eat at home, and eat healthy, but this was a different story. Killian had cooked a full meal for her at 9:30 at night. Wow did she love her husband.

"I had some time on my hands before you got home..." Killian's voice faded off, but Emma knew there was more he had to say. She sent a shy smile his way, and he continued, "I have some news for you my love." Now Killian had a smile that was ear to ear.

"News? What kind of news?" Emma asked excitedly. She hoped this news was what she so desperately wanted to hear; that they were finally getting a baby.

"Sit down, and I'll tell you," Killian chuckled at his wife. She was usually so stressed over work, and dealing with adoption papers it was nice to see her so excited. They had been trying to adopt for almost 2 years now, and still they hadn't had the chance to bring a child into their home. Not until now. Emma sat down quickly, and had a hard time suppressing her smile. Killian walked over to Emma's chair and squatted down so that his elbows were resting on her thighs as he sat between her legs.

"Out with it Jones," Emma commanded, but with very little authority considering she couldn't help her smile from bursting.

"You want to know?" Killian teased.

"Yes,"

"You really want to know?" Killian continued. You could almost hear the smirk in his voice.

"Yes tell me!" Emma said, grabbing both his hands and squeezing them. Excitement was bursting out of her already, and he hadn't even said the words yet. She knew what was coming; she could read it on his face. "Killian," Emma complained tugging on his hands.

"There's a little boy who needs a home," Killian lets out, "We could be getting a son sometime this week!"

"Ah!" Emma screamed out, and pulled Killian up towards her lips. His hands landed on her waist, and he pulled her closer to him. Their lips locked in a passionate and appreciative kiss. They were both elated. The news was even better than Emma could have imagined. Everyone had told her that it could take up to a few months to officially adopt and bring a child home, but Killian was telling her that in as little as a week they could have a son.

"What? How? When?" Emma spit out as soon as their lips disconnected. Killian laughed, and pecked her lips again before standing up.

"It's a bit of a story, I'll explain as we eat," he told her, but Emma shot up out of her seat in protest.

"No just tell me now, we can eat after," Emma tried to compromise. Killian lightly swatted her butt in detest.

"Sit, eat," he commanded. Emma rolled her eyes, but sat down as he told her to do considering he had gone to all the trouble of making it for her.

"Yes officer," Emma joked. Whenever Killian acted like that it meant he wasn't budging. It was the Cop in him, at work when he demanded obedience he got it. At home he tried his best not to be too much of a Captain, but he was strict sometimes. It didn't bother Emma at all, in fact she liked it when he slipped into Captain. "Did you hear about him from work?"

"Aye, I did, actually we rescued him from a home where he was neglected," Killian answered as Emma took a bite of the side salad. "His father was picked up for drug dealing, and we were called to see the boy. He was the weight of a toddler, but he's almost 4 years old. Other than that he's healthy, but the father didn't take care of the boy. He saw him as a burden."

Killian was not only a cop, but Captain of the unit that dealt with child abuse, neglect, and delinquents. On a daily basis Killian was able to help and rescue kids. It was what he was most passionate about. He himself was a child from an abusive home, unfortunately for him he was never brought into foster care, but stayed with his abusive father until he was 15. He faced physical, and emotional abuse from his father. He and his brother both still have scars from the belt their father used. Once Liam, his older brother, was 18 he took Killian out of the home, but that wasn't enough. Their father was ruthless. He searched for Killian day and night once Liam had rescued him. Their father blamed his sons for the death of their mother. Their mother died in a car crash when Killian was 4, Liam 7, on her way to pick up the boys from school. The thought of it haunted Killian, and his father never let him forget it either. Liam knew he needed to get further away from just the home. He applied for, and got accepted into the University of New York. He took Killian with him and never looked back. Liam now lived a few hours away, but he and Killian were still close.

"Doesn't his father still have custody then? How can we adopt him?"

"His father did have custody, but as soon as I mentioned the possibility of giving up his rights he jumped on the opportunity," Killian explained. "I spent a few hours with him yesterday, but I didn't want to tell you anything until the father's paperwork went through, and it did earlier today."

"You've really fallen for this boy haven't you?" Emma asked kindly, and Killian blushed.

"Aye love, I think he's a perfect fit for us. I arranged a meeting tomorrow for you to meet him. He's a really good kid from what I've seen. He loves picture books, and finger painting just like any other kid even after what he's been through."

"What's his name?"

"Christopher,"

"Well here's to Christopher and the chance of finally having a kid" Emma said with a wide smile as she toasted with Killian. Their glasses clanked, and they ate the rest of their dinner together in pure happiness.
