After applying makeup that I found in one of the drawers in the guest bathroom, curling my hair and picking out a black sparkled dress that fits perfectly and heals from last night, I walk out of the bathroom and find Harry wearing all black, and his hair is pushed off of his forehead.
"Wow, Madelyn you look.. beautiful," Harry says while his eyes bulge out of their sockets and literally gaping at my appearance.
"You don't look so bad yourself Styles," I smile.
"Thanks," he says while walking to the front door to leave for the dinner party. I still don't understand why Harry has designer makeup and soap and a full closet of designer clothes for girls in his house. I am not sure if I should be bothered or happy about that.
Harry opens the door and gestures for me to exit before him. "Thank you," I say.
"You're welcome ma'am," he says while closing and locking the door behind him.
"Don't call me ma'am. It makes me sound old." I laugh.
"Why not? Isn't that what a gentleman would do?" He asks.
"Well I guess so," I say while getting into his black convertible Audi TT. I try to make sense of the past 24 hours. I went from being Madelyn Shields, the girl who's only liked one guy in her life in 4th grade, and having her heartbroken shortly after because the boy started chasing another girl during recess; to being the Madelyn Shields who is becoming friends with none other than the Harry Styles. I don't understand what necessarily happened last night, but all I know is that something clicked between Harry and I. And I'm not quite sure when.
I'm sure nothing will come of this small friendship we have. Why would he want to be with a boring blonde haired and brown eyed American girl? He wouldn't. I know that for a fact. But I just don't understand why he asked me to come with him last night. Why me?
"Did you hear me?" Harry asks while turning the radio down.
"I'm sorry, what?" I say.
"We're here." He says.
"Okay," I say while Harry parks in front of the mansion. When I grab the door handle to get out, someone already opens the door for me. A little astounded, I step out and thank the guy.
I turn around to see Harry handing the man the keys to his car. When we walk up the stairs to the two big doors, there is a few paparazzi taking pictures of the other guests also going in. "Smile Madelyn," Harry whispers to me as he takes my arm in his.
I do as he says and I suddenly feel like a real celebrity. Two people open the doors to enter the beautifully decorated mansion. "Let's go find Annie, yeah?" He says while looking down to me. I nod and we walk into the main living area and find many older women, drinking tea and laughing together in a circle. Probably gossiping I'm sure. And the men, all standing around the bar area, holding glasses of scotch I'm guessing and probably talking about politics. This is definitely a more older, and mellow party. I say it's more of a cocktail party. There's slow piano music playing in the music room where Annie's grand piano is.
"Madie!" My best friend calls from behind us. "You look so gorgeous! Oh my god! And Harry, you look handsome," she says as she punches him playfully in the arm.
"Thanks," he says and both of them give each other an odd look. They hold each other's gaze and Annie looks at him and then at me a few times, almost as if she wants him to ask me something. I stay silent and stand confused while looking at both of them.
I turn my head to Harry when he clears his throat, "Umm, Madelyn, would you like to go walk outside with me?" He says while digging his hands into his pockets.
I look to Annie, as she winks at me and feel my cheeks heat up. I turn to Harry and nod willingly as he takes his hand in mine and we walk to the glass French doors that lead out to Annie's back yard. Or to her massive garden, if you will.
Once as we step outside and Harry closes the door behind him, I decide to pull my hand from his, thinking that it's been long enough. We continue to walk the path through the flowers and the clean cut, perfect grass. We stop in front of the beautiful ancient Roman statued fountain. Harry drops our hands and turns to me and looks me straight in the eyes and I feel my cheeks turn a darker shade of red than before.
"Madelyn, I know we only met yesterday, but I feel like I have known you my whole life. I know that sounds really... Odd, but... It's strangely true." I immediately feel my heart stop beating, and I feel as if I may double over and pass out. "And I've been needing to tell you something, but you won't believe me if I tell you, but can you please listen to what I have to say?" His eyes are pleading, waiting for my response. The look on Harry's face drops the longer he waits.
I am then frozen in my place not knowing what to say. I compare myself to a snowflake of frost. My whole body didn't move, and I was frozen in place, just like the frost on the flower leafs.
Confused, thrown off, and absolutely terrified.
