Assalamu Alaykom and Jumuah Mubaraka to you all, my lovely cupcakes!
So! I was reading Reclaim Your Heart by Yasmin Mogahed after a long two hours of exam-taking and I came across her 'women's status' chapter.
Let me just tell you. THIS WOMAN IS A GENIUS.
Now I want to warn you from now that I have always had a major ish with the feminist movement. The idea of equality makes sense, but just about everything else about the movement is complete rubbish.
Needless to say, I really highly dislike the feminists.
(To any of you who like the feminist movement allow me to explain before you shut the window and go on a rage :D)
So the way Ms. Mogahed put it was exactly perfect and an explanation I've been searching for for years.
The biggest problem with the feminist movement is that it makes the ultimate standard the standard of man. We have to remember that men and women are equal, but we're not the SAME.
To be an 'equal' and 'liberated' woman, the feminists seem to believe that we have to BE men. All of the sudden, the beautiful quality of selfless compassion and love that is common of women is an insult. Now we need to be simply rational, never use emotion, and staying home with our children is somehow a degradation to our status. My question is: WHY?!
You don't have to be Einstein to figure out that a woman is not built the same as men. It wouldn't make any sense to pit a woman and a man against one another in a boxing ring and expect the results to be fair. Thus, if we're smart enough to figure that out, then why does it make any sense for us to pit a man and a woman against each other emotionally or conceptually? YOU CAN'T. It's simply not possible no matter how we try to put it.
I've said it a trillion times and I'll say it again. Men and Women are not the SAME!
The even worse alternative to trying to be a man in the feminist movement is becoming an object.
Now instead of forcing ourselves to be completely void of all emotion, we are shortening our skirts and stuffing our bras, and painting our faces with cosmetics made of coal and bi-products of the gas we put in CARS.
I guess according to the feminist movement, you either be a man or please a man. There's no way out.
Well, you know what?! I say there is!
It's called...
ISLAM.
This beautiful religion is the only answer to this seemingly impossible question.
My hijab is my right to force every one around me to respect who I am. It says that yes, I am a woman, and I don't have to rip off my clothes to be proud of it. I am free BECAUSE I'm a woman, not despite it. I can be anything I want to be without changing the natural order of who I am!
CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?! :D
I know, I know it's pretty mind blowing. As Allah SWT has told us the only thing that can differentiate between any race or gender is piety and righteousness.
We don't have to parade around the streets naked and burn our bras to be free. We simply have to do as Allah SWT has commanded us and live for the hereafter.
Nothing is more liberating than that.

Sooooooo! That was my rant for today! :) Alhamdulilah, I should be more active now that the school year is coming to the end.
Tell me what you think! Yay or nay to the feminists?
