Chapter 3
Seashore
I opened my eyes once I got used to the sting of the salt water. In my hasty awakening, I rolled off the board and fell deep into the water. I couldn't seem to get my head above water and I was running out of air.
Damn.
Steady.
Steady.
Steady.
Be calm.
Don't panic.
Air. I need air...... Something was tugging me, upwards? Downwards? I don't know. There was a large shadow hovering behind me. Is it a whale or perhaps a shark? Am I hallucinating? I did the most logical thing that came to my mind. Panic? No. Kick and punch. I learned that it's quite an effective defence mechanism against imaginary monsters.
Kick, punch, kick, punch, kick, land? Wait, a minute ago I was far away from land. I coughed out all the water that I consumed, spluttering it all around me. I guess I kicked and punched my way to shore!
'I have finally mastered the art of swimming! Legendary!' I laughed hysterically. What a beautiful day! It was sometime around dawn and the light from the sun touched my skin spreading warmth through my cold body. 'I'm fr..ee, f...free, free.' My soaked clothes stuck to my skin and the cool breeze sent shivers through my body. My teeth were chattering and I was trembling from the freezing morning weather. I haven't seen the sun for a long time.
'What are you rambling about there?'
I whipped my head towards that deep voice and my eyes were met with... with, I don't know if there is even a word to describe this creature. All I know is that my eyes were attacked by the gorgeous, handsome glory of the man walking towards me, battling the blue and white waves with his strong legs looking like a bruised war hero. He had dark brown heavenly eyes and brown hair so beautifully dark they were almost black. He had on a strange attire that made him look like some Persian prince.
'Why did you kick me? You got me all bruised up,' he said in his amazing deep voice.
'Uhm, I didn't see you. I thought a shark or a whale got me?' I answered or rather asked.
'A whale this close to shore?' There was a hint of a smile on his face, 'What were you doing at sea? This is the place were survivors of the wrecked pirate ship wash up. It's not safe to be here. Who are you?'
'I was a prisoner of the ship?'
'You definitely weren't. I knew each and every prisoner of that ship. Tell me, who are you really?' His voice turned rash and cold.
'I-I,' I ran. Unfortunately, he was expecting this as he caught hold of my wrist and pulled me along with him towards the woods on the opposite side of the sea.
'Where are you taking me? Lemme go-', I cried out.
'A strange woman does not simply show up claiming to be a supposed prisoner,' he huffed impatiently while struggling to drag me along with him,' You must be one of the crew members.'
'What? No. Just let me go alright. I really was a prisoner. Damn you! Who are you? '
He dragged me through the trees while I continued thrashing him with my free hand and my head. I helplessly stumbled on the roots and tripped on the slippery ground, occasionally screaming when I saw a snake.
He walked into a clearing where many tents were set up. People were bustling about carrying clothes and firewood. The ones closer to us gave us a strange look. It looked like a survival camp built overnight. He hauled me inside a red tent and woman came in after us. She sat down on a chair.
'Selene!'
'Whats up David? Have we got a prisoner?' The woman asked analyzing me, head to toe, with a sneer.
'Yeah. She won't tell who she is but my best guess is that she is one of the pirates.'
'Oh, I'm sure that she'll talk. Eventually. Leave it to me.'
I gave up struggling and started looking for a way to escape even though that meant leaving this prince aka David. At least I know his name. God, such a beautiful piece of artwork!
'Sit,' David pushed me down on a chair, took my wrist and handcuffed my left hand to the chair handle, 'Don't move.' He left the tent leaving me and the women alone. I had to escape but that seemed impossible with this stupid handcuff.
'So tell me miss, who are you?'
'I-I was a prisoner. I'm no pirate. Trust me and let me go.' I said looking her in the eye hoping that she would believe me. She started laughing and she got up from her chair.
'Okay. Now either you tell me or I'll beat you up.'
'I already told you!' I screamed, 'Now let me-' she punched my stomach. Hard. I cried out in searing pain. It felt as if she punched a hole in my stomach. She lifted her arm to hit me again and I recoiled in my chair trying to free my hand and at the same time trying to endure the pain. She hit my face and my cheek started burning.
I didn't want this. I stood up on my wobbly legs. It was hard to concentrate, with pain emanating through my body. I grabbed the chair and hit her on the head and I ran out of the tent holding the chair like a shield in front of me.
