"It was incredible!" Georgia claps her hands together as Zara and I listen. I'm not doing a very good job at it, nodding mutely, my mind elsewhere as I pick up a carrot stick. "Wasn't it Sav?" I look over, her gaze locked on me as she waits for my reply.

"Sure was!" I reply, hoping she's still on about the film we went to see yesterday night.

"You need to go and see it!" She turns back to Zara and I look back down at my food. At least I got the answer right - she was still talking about the film. I don't know why my mind is so distracted today but I can't even seem to hold a conversation. Maybe it's the thought of my driving test later.

Maybe...

Who am I kidding? I'm terrified. Ever since I sat down in the driving seat and began learning I've grown more nervous about the thought of taking my life into my own hands on the road. I've never met a driver more nervous than me and I'm really not okay with that. I bite off a big chunk of carrot and notice both of my friends looking at me.

"Nervous Savannah?" Zara asks, obviously amused.

"What makes you think that?" I savagely bite more and Georgia bursts out laughing.

"It'll be fine Sav!" She giggles and I shrug.

"I'd like to hear you say that after I end up crashing into a signpost," I mutter and Georgia erupts into more laughter as Zara smirks.

"You won't." Zara assures and I look up at her, munching into my carrot again. They slowly move on, starting a new conversation about what we should do at the weekend and I zone out, my mind still preoccupied with my test. A high-pitched squeal distracts me from my food and I gaze over the heads of Georgia and Zara to the other side of the cafeteria.

The head cheerleader, Ashley Farrier, stands in the middle of the room, over the shoulders of a familiar boy. She laughs as he puts her down and kisses her roughly on the lips before they pull away and he wraps his arms around her waist. I feel my lips automatically part slightly as I stare, taking in the sight of him.

Brett Winters.

You know in Mean Girls when they describe Regina George?

Brett Winters... How do I even begin to explain Brett Winters.

Brett Winters is flawless.

He has brunette hair that stands out against his ocean blue eyes.

His muscles are visible through even the baggiest of clothing.

His family have five houses and he drives a black sleek sports car.

I hear he's already been scouted by three different colleges.

I hear he can talk any girl into bed by merely smiling at them.

And just like any popular person in school...

One time he mocked me in the middle of the crowded school.

I didn't think it was awesome. I ran.

I ran straight home to my sister, Elle, and cried into her arms all night long.

That was one year ago and Brett Winters hasn't looked in my direction since. I think I'm the only girl in the school that doesn't worship him. Sure, I drool along with the rest of the school at the sight of him - who wouldn't? But I know the only thing behind those gorgeous eyes is a heartless player, a man who knows how good he looks. An arrogant, spoilt jock. That's all.

Him and Ashley fit together better than I can even express to you. Two cruel, popular people, loving that they are the center of the school.

I watch as she finally removes her lips from his and turns, wiggling her hips as she struts towards her worshipers across the room. I raise my eyebrows at her tiny skirt and see Brett smirk as he watches her leave before he walks towards the football team. I shake my head and turn back to my carrots, suddenly losing the tiny appetite that I have.
