Chapter 5

(Gino's POV)

When I heard the announcer call Maddie's name, I was expecting a great performance, and I really love watching her dance. I decided to stay in the wings to watch her, instead of going right back to where the rest of my studio dancers were. The name of the dance was 'Breathless' and that's exactly what I was. I was completely mesmerized by her smile, her emotion, her legs, her lines. So mesmerized, that I didn't even notice that Maddie wasn't watching where she was going, and she ran into me in the wings. I was caught off guard but I was also a little shell-shocked. This was the first time we had actually touched. I thought I was going to faint. I didn't know what to say to her.

"Gino", Maddie asked, looking very concerned, "are you okay?'

Her voice still ringing in my ears, I wiped my sweaty palms on my dance shorts and took a deep breath

"Yeah, I'm fine"

I quickly took a look around. There were no cameramen, no parents, and noone from either of our studios. I was safe to talk in private. I wiped my hands again.

"So, er, Maddie, long time, no see, um how are you?". I stuttered

She eyed me suspiciously, "Fine, I guess. You danced really well!'

My heart raced. She just payed me a compliment!

''Thanks, you were great too!", I replied, a little too quickly

I couldn't waste this opportunity. I saw a pen and a clipboard of paper. I didn't care if I would get into trouble, I ripped a bit of the paper on the clipboard, and the pen, and gave it to Maddie.

"I know you're nervous about me talking to you, how about you give me your number, I'll text you", I seriously hoped she would give me her number.

She considered her options, and gave me a cheery smile. She scribbled her number and gave the little slip of paper to me. I smiled, and slid the paper in my pocket.

I could make this into a great friendship. I've just got to start talking

meanwhile..

(Maddie's POV)

I  don't know what Gino's problem is. He keeps stuttering, and wiping his palms on his shorts. Maybe he's as nervous as I am about being seen by one of the cameramen and being seen on national TV talking to a girl. But, when I give him my number, my heart feels lighter, or maybe that's my head. I quickly exit the situation and go to the ALDC dressing room.

Kendall pops her head out of nowhere, and I jump

"Whoo, Kendall you scared me", I exclaim

"Whats up? Where have you been, your solo endedd ten minutes ago", she asks inquisitevely

Damn, I need an excuse.

"Oh I was just, watching the solo after me, she was really good", I babble

"Mmmhmm'', she stretches out the last syllable, disbelievingly, '''whatever you say''

We walk to the dressing room, with me thinking about the way Gino was acting.
