Chapter 6

(Maddie's POV)

I was ready for awards.

I mean, its inevitable. Our group will win, all solos will place, and Abby will yell at us anyway, but we're so used to it, we can make even the saddest moment fun again. Group awards were called out first an our group dance, Sophisticated Glam, got first place. Don't get me wrong, I was thrilled, but I was nervously waiting fror solo awards. Usually I'm confident that I'm going to win and all I'm thinking would be how proud my mom and Abby would be, but now I'm nervous and all I'm thinking is gino, gino, gino. I turn around and catch his eye. I blush and quickly turn back around.

"In second place, in the junior solo division is... Madison Ziegler with Breathless"

I felt like I had just been slapped on my face. I heard a gasp. I turned around and saw Gino's mouth curve into a shocked "O". I shakily walked up and held my lame plaque. I had to pretend like it was the best thing in the world to get that stupid second place plaque. But the funny thing was, even though I was seriously upset, it wasn't the same feeling. Because I knew who was going to win.

And I was right

"In first place, we have Gino Cosculluela with Found! Congratulations!"

I should have been feeling really sad, right?

But I was feeling strangely okay. I didn't mind the fact that Gino won. Anyone else, I would have been flaming, but Gino, not at all.

Of course, I did get yelled at by Abby, but I pushed it all aside. I didnt care. They would all cool down later. And the moms were happy. So I was happy.

The bus ride back was great. We were all playing games and watching movies, and generally having a great time. It always is. This one was short, so we were going to reach the studio in half an hour. We were in the middle of watching Insidious when I got a text

Ping

1 new message from: Gino :D

Hey Madz!

My heart fluttered. I told it to stop. It was only Gino. Just Gino.

"Hey guys, excuse me.."

"Oooh", Chloe chirped, "Who's Maddie texting?"

"O-oh, i-it's just, um, Ashley, we're talking about, uh, this girl at school", I stuttered, and I quickly moved to the back of the bus.

My fingers fumbled over the phone's small keyboard

Maddie: Hey Gino

Gino: Sup! Did Abby yell at you a lot?

Maddie: I guess, but I donut care lol. You were amazing, though.

Gino; Thanks, but you were better.

Did he really think that? My heart started acting up again. I told it to shut up.

Maddie: Maybe, but you deserved to win, you were perfection

Did I just say that. He was perfection, right? Not just his dancing but his smile, his hair, his eyes...

Gino: Yeah? To you I would lose with grace.

I smiled in spite of myself. Who even talks like that?

Maddie: Gino, you are awesome!

I didn't even know that Kendall was watching me the whole time. she snatched the phone from my hand.

"WHO IS MADDIE REALLY TEXTING?", she screamed

The whole bus turned around to look at us.

I thought I would melt into a puddle

Kendall read my phone and a shocked expression crossed her face for a second. She quickly masked it over with a mischeivous grin.

"It is a boy!", she squealed, "They're talking about a boy at their school!"

I exhaled sharply

Thank god for a friend like Kendall.

(Gino's POV)

The good thing about being a boy is that nobody suspects you about doing anything. I was sitting at the back corner of the bus, and quietly texted Maddie. Nobody cared. All the dads were talking and the dancers, except for me, weere sleeping.

I smile crept on my face. She called me awesome.

Till next time, Ziegler.

I'll miss you.
