The flight, while long, was relaxing and entertaining. I usually flew first class because of my dad’s job and his relationships with the airlines, but this jet was like nothing I had every flown on before.
Louis had failed to mention that it was a private jet. We had a full three course meal, a flat screen TV and sound system, the latest video gaming system and movies and Cds… Basically, it was heaven.
We landed at JFK Airport at 10 PM. My dad had traveled with us to ensure our safe arrival, plus he had business in New York. We trudged off of the plane and headed down the escalator towards the luggage pick up when we saw a man in a driver’s uniform holding a plaque that read “Horan”.
“Dad, did you get us a car?” I asked.
“Nope.” He shook his head before looking at me. “I got you a limo.” He smiled.
“Oh, my gosh!” I laughed. “Thank you so much!” I hugged him as we reached the bottom of the escalator.
“Geoffrey, good to see you!” My dad clapped the man on the shoulder with his left hand and vigorously shook Geoffrey’s hand with his right.
“Always a pleasure, Mr. Horan.” Geoffrey nodded and smiled. “Shall we collect your luggage?”
“Yes, let’s go!” My dad nodded and led the way.
Once we had gotten our luggage, we stuffed everything into the sleek black limo that was waiting out front and got inside. As Geoffrey started driving through the bright streets of New York, I realized that my dad had never told us where we were staying.
“Hey, Dad? Where exactly did you get us a place to stay?” I said as I opened up a Pepsi can.
“Oh, well that is a surprise.” He waggled his eyebrows secretively.
“Ugh, I hate surprises… Hey, Kellie, pass me that bag of sweets, eh?” Niall muttered, pointing to a little basket full of sweets. I chose the Sour Patch Kids, knowing that these were his favorites, and whipped them at his head.
“Well, wherever it is, thanks for letting me stay!” Louis piped up from his seat next to me, ignoring the exchange between Niall and I.
“Yeah, I don’t trust you.” My dad smiled both brilliantly and frighteningly. He is one of the big names working for a big talent agency in L.A., so he frequently travels around the country looking for fresh talent. Surprisingly, he had nothing to do with me getting the part. However, his status in the business gets him a lot of recognition and perks, like first-class flights and super fancy hotel accommodations.
“Um, okay…” Louis is terrified of my father. Niall chuckled in amusement.
We drove for awhile until I began to recognize the streets of Manhattan. We passed the Empire State Building and drove down Broadway. Finally, we drove past Central Park.
“Hey, wouldn’t it unbelievably cool if we were staying at The Plaza?” Louis stared at the building in awe as we drew closer to it.
“Oh, I know! It’s so beautiful! We stayed there once when I was little. Gorgeous! Hey, and it’s within walking distance of where we shoot, primarily!” I nudged him. “But my dad would never…” I trailed off as my dad’s knowing look caught my eye. “Oh, my gosh. No you did not…”
“Holy carrots, he did not!” Louis gasped as our driver stopped in front of The Plaza Hotel.
“Welcome to your new home!” My dad spread his arms out wide and smiled.
“Holy crap, dad! You seriously got us rooms in The Plaza Hotel?” I gave him a huge hug.
“I sure did, Pumpkin!” He hugged me back. We broke apart as the valet opened our door and said, “Welcome to The Plaza Hotel!” A huge grin spread across my face as I stepped out of the limo and looked up at the beautiful building that would be our home for the next four months.
