“Hey.” Kaylie nudged me in the ribs. We were watching Psych, my favoritest show ever. “Why does Abbie seem so pissed off at you?” Her lips were barely moving and her voice was down to a whisper since Abbie and Ashlie were right around the corner filling up on more snacks.
“Eh, she just caught me and Liam kissing.” I shrugged.
“Shut up!” She smacked my arm lightly with wide eyes and an open smile.
“I know, right!” I smiled and squealed softly.
“You are so lucky!” Kaylie sighed. “You’ve got the perfect looks, the perfect grades, the perfect gig, the perfect brother…” She trailed off and blushed.
I was about to rebut her ‘perfect’ statements, but then I caught her.
I was so not gonna let that slide.
“Wait. Did you say that I have the perfect brother?” I smiled deviously.
“I only meant that I wished he was my brother instead of that lunatic sister I’m stuck with.” She kept blushing.
“Oh, my god! You like my brother!” I squealed softly.
“Shh! Don’t tell anyone or I will sneak into your bedroom one cold winter night and murder you in your sleep.” She growled menacingly. Honestly, though, she was just 5 foot and no more than 90 pounds. Not that menacing.
“Ok, fine!” I rolled my eyes and smiled. “Ha, I can so hold this against you, now!” I laughed.
“Hey, you two!” Ashlie plopped herself down on the couch beside me. Kaylie and I immediately shut up. “You up for a late night trip to the mall?” She flashed her signature smile.
“Totally!” Kaylie hopped up.
“Will the shops even be open?” Abbie questioned, not moving from her position.
“Yeah, it’s only 9 o’clock, and since it’s a weekend I believe they start closing up around 10 or 10:30... Plus, all I’ve gotta do is show them my idea and threaten to sick my daddy on them and we’re good!” Ashlie winked and flashed a gorgeous grin. Her dad was the owner of the mall, so we were good no matter what.
“I’m in! I need to do some serious shopping!” I giggled as I got up and stretched.
“Awright then!” Ashlie stood up. “Yo, Abbie, will you throw me the keys there?” She nodded towards the keys sitting on the table where Abbie was, well, sulking. When she didn’t respond, Ashlie trudged over and snatched the keys off of the table. “Well, then…” She mumbled playfully.
As Kaylie bounded after Ashlie down the steps, I called out, “Me and Abbie will be right out! Just hold on a sec…” Then I plopped down across from her at the dining room table. “So… What’s going on?” I said softly.
“Don’t play dumb, Kellie; you know what’s going on!” she spat.
“Ok! Sorry…” I put my hands up defensively. Yeesh, what was up with her? “It’s just that you’ve never seemed to have a problem with me liking him before, and now it’s a huge deal. What is up?”
“It’s just… Awkward! And I’m jealous of you.” She blurted out.
My eyes widened. “You- You’re jealous of me? Why?” I laughed.
“You and Liam. You’ve both liked each other since you were in eighth grade and-”
“Whoa whoa whoa! WHAT THE HELL?! He has liked me since eighth grade and you didn’t bother telling me?!” I flipped.
