Elizabeth's POV:
I sit on a bed of moss near the great oak tree, with the other fledgling goddesses, waiting for my name to be called.
"Adeline, please stand." Says the voice of the Elder Goddess.
Adeline rises and and walks shakily to the front of the counsel of elder gods.
"Adeline, as you know, this is your goddess crowning ceremony. You will now get your wings and we shall reveal what we see of your future. It will be painful at first, but it won't last long, do you except these terms?" The Elder Goddess says softly, but loud enough for everyone to hear.
"I do." Says Adeline in a strong voice.
"Then let it begin." The Elder Goddess says, as she bends down and gently touches Adeline's forehead. Suddenly tears burst from her eyes and she begins to scream. After what feels like an eternity large flowing white wings sprout from her back and she raises her head triumphantly.
"Adeline, we have seen a piece of your future do you wish to hear it?" Says a tall dark haired goddess standing next to the Elder Goddess.
Adeline smiles and once again says, "I do."
"Your future is a sad one, but also a bright one, you will make a great sacrifice for the one you cherish, this sacrifice will bring great joy but also great suffering, though it is a sacrifice you must make when you feel that the time is at hand." Says the dark haired women.
Adeline bows deeply and walks back towards us. The ceremony goes on, in much the same fashion, until at last, my name is called.
"Elizabeth, please stand."
I do and walk quietly over to the counsel of elders. Every nerve in my body hums with nervousness, but I manage to make it their without tripping over my feet.
"Elizabeth, as you know, this is your goddess crowning ceremony. You will now get your wings and we shall reveal what we see of your future. It will be painful at first, but it won't last long, do you except these terms?"
"I-i do." I say shakily and the Elder Goddess looks at me with kindness.
"Do not worry my dear, all will be fine." She whispers to me and gives me a motherly smile. Did I mention that she raised me?
"Then let it begin." She says smiling and lightly touches my forehead, pain like nothing I've ever experienced knifes through my back. I feel as though my shoulder blades are being ripped in two, maybe they are. The fiery sensation slowly spreads across my back, until all I can do is scream in agony. When the pain finally stops I rise to my feet and everyone gasps. They all stare with wide eyed horror at my new wings.
I look behind me to see two new appendages sprouting from my back and I gasp at the sight of them. My wings are a dark black color and they resemble the time of night, right before dawn, when everything is darker than coal and devoid of light. Tears poor from my eyes and I look back at the Elder Goddess.
"What's wrong with me?" I ask quietly as tears begin to run down my face.
She turns to me and say in a sad, broken voice. "I am sorry my child but you are tainted. We have seen your future and in it, your heart becomes corrupted by a dark, forbidden love."
More tears leak from my eyes and I flee into the forest as fast as my legs will carry me.
"I'm sorry." I call behind and I hear footsteps trying to fallow me. But they're stopped by a the commanding voice of the Elder Goddess.
"No, leave her be, she will come to us once she has had time to register what we have told her."
***
Tears continue to fall from my eyes and I feel my wings slowly retract into my shoulders and I know they have disappeared for now. The voice of my adoptive mother loops endlessly through my mind, I am sorry my child but you are tainted... Corrupted by a dark, forbidden love. More tears drop from my eyes and I get ready to turn back and return to the other goddesses, when a voice calls out from behind me.
"Hello, goddess." It says in a deep foreboding voice.
I turn around, surprised by the unknown voice and as I do I feel my tears fall from my eyes. A dark shadowy figure stands at the edge of the tree line, staring at me silently. It must be a demon I think solemnly. This is bad, I may be powerful, but I've never fought anyone before, if I engage...him, I think looking at the strong muscular set of his body, in battle I will probably die. Then a thought occurs to me, he doesn't know I'm still a fledgling, for all he knows I've fought many battles and killed many demons in my time, this could be interesting.
"Hello, demon." I respond. "You are either very powerful or very stupid, to be hunting alone on a night like this." I say, trying to project confidence.
I see him take a step back so that the shadows cover his face better. "And you are either very powerful or quit stupid to be talking so boldly to a demon." He says, not the least bit fazed by my hollow threat.
"Who are you? Come into the light." I say as boldly as I can.
"Is that an order from a goddess?" He ask me, his voice as flawless as ever.
"Y-yes, yes it is." I say, my confidence beginning to crumble.
"Well if its an order, I suppose I should obey it." He say and steps forward so that I can see his blond hair and dark black eyes.
"M-meliodas." I say, surprise lacing my words.
"So you've heard of me, have you?" He says giving me a slight smirk.
"Of course!" I shout, a bit surprised by his words. "What goddess hasn't heard of Meliodas, the infamous captain of the ten commandments?"
"That's odd." He says beginning to approach me. "You know of me, yet you are not afraid." he says. "Maybe you really are stupid because your about to be murdered and you don't show a hint of fear." Then he lunges at me.
