If you ever happen to find yourself standing in SHIELD Headquarters you will notice two things.
One, that the building is a maze of halls, levels and rooms.
And two, in one of the sublevels of the building there is a room secured with more security than one would expect.
This room is not unlike any others in its hall. But there is one important difference:
This room harbours secrets.
And not just any secrets.
Two men stand facing a corkboard inside that room. One of them is tacking big polaroid-style pictures to the corkboard while the other one checks over the files in his hand.
"They are growing in number." One man tells the other.
"What does that mean?" Questions the second man.
"It means," The man says as he tacks on more pictures, "that the time to strike draws near."
In his hand is a picture of a young girl, her messy hair hanging around her shoulders, her big brown eyes staring up at you. Beneath the picture is the name Eva written in permanent marker. The man tacks the photo on the corkboard.
The picture sits near another familiar face. The name Rose is written under it.
There are several other faces on the board, a mixture of both boys and girls, all looking similar in age, all with names tagged to them.
The man picks up one final picture; it's a girl, her hair blonde, her eyes a light shade of blue.
She looks younger than the rest, but not by much. It's the final picture the man tacks onto the board, the picture located in the centre of the photographs.
Picking the blacker marker from off the table, the man writes a name under the photo as he speaks.
"And when it's time" he tells the other man, "We must be ready."
The other man nods and they both look at the work in front of them; at all the names and faces covering the board.
In this room, protected with extra security measures, hidden out of view and unknown to most inside the building, is the room where it all begins.
The room where the beginning could mean the end.
