--As Shadow sleeps--

Gerald quickly pressed buttons and mumbled to himself as he poked the sleeping hedgie with more needles and wires. Then writing on a little note pad and pressing more buttons.

"Hey old man, you got him shut down yet?" a solider came into ask.

"Hm? No... it will take some time. He was a big project and took a year or more to bring up, it will take just as long to shut him down completely." Gerald explained lying of course.

"Well, time for a break!" He came in.

"No!" the Professor quickly yelled, "it will only take longer! Commander was right, I-I created such a monster and to ensure everyone's safety I'd like to finish this a.s.a.p!"

"Well... I, you sure you can work with out sleep?"

"Yes yes! Of course I've done it many times!"

"Alright old man..." He walked away locking the door.

Gerald sneered chuckling to himself. "By dawn, he shall be ready... Though altering memory is tricky it might take till the after noon." he turned back to his computer.

"His learning is complete! They feared him when he was to help, now they will have a real reason to fear!" Gerald laughed wickedly.

mean while...

"Shadow... I'm sorry that this is happening." Maria's voice sounded faint in the dark.

"Maria?" Shadow called trying to see in the black nothingness.

"You must remember Shadow, my promise. Something snapped in Grandpa's mind... he doesn't mean what he's doing right now. Fight it. He can hide your memory and sense of reason, but he can't get rid of it. Remember Shadow, not all human's are bad. We must forgive..." She said softly.

"But, Maria how can you!? That was terrible! You didn't deserve to die yet..." He bowed his head. It was silent. "Maria? Maria!?"
