The next few months were amazing. I was getting closer and closer to being able to say a word, and all the while Nico and I got closer as well. It was finally Christmas, Nico had worked up the courage to ask me to the Christmas ball and I wanted everything to be perfect. Natalie, my new best friend, was going to help me curl and pin up my hair. We had also gone shopping and found the perfect dress together. My dress was sea foam and went to my knees. It had a band around the waist that was white and tied in the back. Natalie said I looked stunning in it and personally I agreed. The ball was a masquerade and scheduled for tomorrow so for now I sat staring out the window of my dorm as watched the pure white snow fall blanketing the ground with soft fluff. Nico had said we'd go out and take a walk later but for now I was stuck in the dorm with my brother and his boyfriend who were curled up on his bed together. It wasn't too long before I heard a knock at the door and practically ran to open it. Nico was standing there smiling. He was clothed in black jeans, show boots, and a warm winter jacket that was a dark navy blue. His eyes seemed to stand out in brilliant contrast to the dark colors he was wearing. "You ready to go?" he asked in that charming voice I had become accustomed to. I nodded which made some of my loose shoulder length brown hair fall in my face. The male standing before me leaned over and gently tucked it behind my ear. "Lucky it isn't windy or your hair would be everywhere" he said jokingly. I laughed softly and nodded in agreement. He gently took my hand and led me outside. We started to walk through the snow covered commons; it was strangely beautiful despite being covered in snow. The two of us laughed and conversed as usual but I was able to sign with him now even if it was just a little. We wandered to the dining hall and he bought me a cup of hot chocolate before we sat and talked. Our conversations ranged through various things, like completely ridiculous to school related and currently we were talking about the ball tomorrow. "So are you excited?" he asked curiously. I nodded enthusiastically. "Yes very, Natalie and I went shopping a few weeks ago and I found the perfect dress" I signed smiling. I couldn't sign as fast as I normally would so that he could actually have time to read what I was saying but I didn't mind because I could carry a conversation. Nico smiled happily and drank some of his hot chocolate. "That's great, you'll love the mask I got you!" he exclaimed with a bright smile. Every time he smiled I couldn't help but smile as well it was strangely contagious. Soon it was dark and he walked me back to my room and he promised to pick me up for the ball around 6. That night I went to bed excited for what the next day would bring. I was determined to talk to him even if it was only one word.
