Chapter 24

Hadlee's P.O.V.

I ran through the house making sure no kids were left upstairs or anywhere for that fact. I looked outside to see a few mothers running with their children to the house.

Once everyone was in I closed the heavy metal door. All kids and some women were in the dimly lit concrete room.

Some children cry, others comfort their friends. Few just sat their in peace while most found an adult to huddle around.

A boy around ten or twelve who looked tired was holding a little girl who started to fuss in his arms. A worried look came across his face as she started to wale. The boy lightly rocked her trying to sooth her.

I walked over to the boy and sat down beside him.

"Would you like some help?" I asked as he looked over to me.

"yes please." He vigorously nodded his head with a concerned look on his face.

I took her from his arms and cradled her to my chest. She immediately pressed her soft pink cheek to my steady heart beat. She opened her mouth and let out a yawn.

The boy next to me did the same.

"Are you her older brother?" I asked as he nodded.

Within five minutes of his head resting against the wall it lulled to the side and rested on my shoulder. His closed eye, open mouth, and steady breath told me he was asleep.

As I look around most kids are calmed and on the edge of sleep or quietly talking to their friends.

I smiled with the thought of me having a baby. I hope my child is as sweet, kind, caring, and good hearted as the ones surrounding me.

My thoughts were interrupted when an excruciating pain came to me shoulder. My arm jerked and went to jello. I whimpered as the pain lingered. Breathing in and out I tried to calm myself.

One woman noticed my pain and stood to take the little girl from me. I didn't know what was happening till the lady said something.

"It's your mates pain. I'm sorry dear. It will be okay." She took the infant with a sad smile.

A pain shot through my butt all the way threw my hip. I thrusted forward to try to subside the pain. The pinching released and it subsided to a hot dull ache.

I looked around me at the rest of the women who looked fine or held their arm with slight pain. These are women from this pack. My mates not from this pack.

Were beating them! The attack didn't work! A smile washed over my face with this realization.

Another pain shot through me and a grunt left my lips as my back aches and pins shot through it.

That was the last pain I felt when a much older woman stood up.

"We won!" She cheered quietly informing us.

It went silent as women mind linked their mates. I knew exactly how mine was and I wasn't concerned. Who I was concerned about was Jake. I tried to mind link him but it was blocked.

I sigh in defeat only praying that my favorite person is okay.

Women and children left the safe room as I woke the boy who was still beside me.

"It's time to wake up. Let's go find your family." I pulled him up as my aching body yelled at me.

We found his mother and sister who were walking towards the group of men coming in.

I stayed to the back as everyone checked each other for injuries. I saw my dad proudly walking back over to my mom. They hugged and kissed and I walked over to them.

"I'm glad your okay dad." I smiled as we pulled into a group hug.

"Do you know where Jake is?" I asked once we were done.

My dads proud smile turned to a sad frown. I immediately thought the worst.

"He's in surgery as far as we know. He took down Alpha Gunner but got part of his stomach ripped out." I only nodded trying to hold in my tears.

"I'm gonna wait for him." I told my parents as I walked away.

I got to the infirmary and waited in the chair till doctors came out.

"Are you here for Jake?" One doctor asked.

I nodded and stood up.

"He's all stitched up. We put him in a medically induced coma and will keep him there for two to three days. We want his body to heal completely before we let him go. He's in the room if you would like to see him." I nodded to the information and walked in.

It was hard seeing someone you loved so much laying in a bed not having any control over their body.

I pulled a chair up next to him and grabbed his hand that was laying on the bed. I kissed it and laid my head down beside it to soon fall asleep.
