Chapter 16

Hadlee's P.O.V.

"I'm sure it was the new soap and not the fact that we sleep in the same bed together." I shook my head as I heard a growl.

Thinking it was Jake just playing around I ignored it. I ignored it till a giant black wolf with vibrant green eyes charged the side of Jake out of nowhere.

I backed up and told Jake to watch out. He was so wrapped up and didn't react quick enough that he was tackled to the ground whimpering.

This black wolf was not from here. I sure as hell wasn't going to have my best friend/ roommate get attacked by this stranger. Let alone in my own damn territory.

I did the first thing that came to mind as the two struggled in the same position.

I charged. I was at a perfect angle and height that if I lower my head I could flip this wolf over.

Conveniently there just so happened to be a tree that the black ball of fur slammed into. With impact the tree cracked and a terrifying growl was released.

Next thing I know there were at least ten wolf surrounding us. They started to attack but Jake and I just couldn't keep up. I hadn't fought this vigorously in a really long time.

Caught off guard I was pushed to the hard ground. On impact my head the ground causing a pained whimper to escape as black started to fill my vision.

Jake turned to me as I still tried to get up. His back leg was nipped at with a howl ripping through him as he stood over me.

He did this to protect me. This meant he would die to try to protect me.

And with that I fell unconscious.

I awoke to a bright light. I groaned trying to move my arms, but I couldn't. They were strapped down.

The more I moved or tried to fight the light the more my pounding headache and aching body screamed at me to stop.

With one last hoarse, unladylike, and unattractive groan I gave up.

It was to bright for me to figure anything out and every other sense seemed overwhelmed when I tried to use it.

I laid back on the soft bed. Well at least I'm on a bed. A door was opened and shut quietly but to me it sounded like a mad teenager just had a fight with their parents. Footsteps came around the bed and up to the side of me head. I groaned as it sounded like stomping.

"Oh you're awake!" A masculine voice basically yelled at me.

I flinched at the volume of the sound. I tried nodding which only caused another groan to emit from me.

"Let me get you some pain killers and I'll turn the lights down. You can rest and we'll see how you are in a little bit." The guy whispered.

And soon I fell asleep.

When I woke up I no longer thought I would die but there were people yelling right outside the room.

I tried listening but I was still to tired. Then a scared doctor and I believe my mate walked in.

My mate looked furious. His breathing picked up as he looked at me but then it seemed to calm almost immediately.

"What's wrong?" My voice croaked.

"I'll do this last check up and your free to go." The doctors words were rushed just like his actions.

He unlatched my restraints and gave me a glass of water. I drank the whole glass trying to eliminate the dry mouth I had.

"You're free to go." The doctor said setting a pair of clothes on the bed and walked out.

"Put those on and well go home."

"What about my home? What happened?"

"Get dressed and I'll explain."

So that's what I did. I pulled up the black running shorts and the big sweatshirt that I believed belonged to Gunner if I'm smelling correctly.

I walked out of the room and followed him to the house. His pace was slow so I could keep up.

Once at the house he brought me to the dinning room where there was a sandwich that looked delicious sitting where I usually ate. Gunner nodded and I sat down starting to eat the mouth watering food.

"So who attacked us and why am I here?" I asked.

"We don't know but it's not safe there so I brought you back."

"Why do you care if I'm safe or not? You let me leave in the first place." I studied his face before he answered.

"Just because I let you leave doesn't mean I don't want my Luna." He said making it seem meaningful as if he wanted me here.

"I left and you realized how much you needed me. It's not that you wanted a Luna. You need one." I stated mater of factly.

"Yes I only need you here for the pack." He spoke seemingly only a half truth.

"Okay I just wanna know why you didn't want a mate in the first place. Like you didn't know me but you knew you could be stronger with me as Luna and still didn't care. It's like you don't care about anything."

There was a long pause where nothing was said. I had picked my sandwich back up and started to finish it.

"I'm twenty three, the Alpha, and never had a mate. I was angry I never found one and thought if I haven't found one I clearly don't need one."

"So it's not even about you not liking me it's just you being hard headed because you hadn't found your mate in a long time."

Gunner only nod.

"Well, did you guys save Jake as well?" I asked curiously

"Who's Jake?" He asked confused but with a growl showing a hint of jealousy through his eyes.

"The wolf I was with!! The one that protected me!! That's Jake!! Where is he?!" I started to get worried as my best friend was not heard of.

Was he safe? Is he hurt? Are they tormenting him? Oh please Goddess don't tell me he's dead. No he can't be dead.

"You talk about that man like you love him!" Gunner stood from his chair with anger and disgust.

"I do love him! He's helped me through everything! He picked me up when you told me to leave. He actually shows that he cares about me." I said calming down now feeling extremely sad.

Gunner took in a big breath and let it out while slightly relaxing.

"If you want we can look for him." Gunner said as it seemed a struggle to get out.
