Together again

It was Pete and Maureen's wedding anniversary and just a day left to Ricki's arrival in the Brummel's gigantic house.

Even if he cared a lot for Maureen, on that day Pete couldn't stop thinking about Ricki and how he should have welcomed her. The real reason he agreed for hosting Ricki was that Maureen had to leave for two weeks to assist her father who was getting sicker.

On that night he stayed awake recalling the last time he had spent some time alone with Ricki: they smoked Marijuana and he laid on her legs touching her sensually. He wanted to kiss her too, but stopped himself from doing that, knowing he would have felt guilty for Maureen. Such an unfair action.

Yet, he still had the wish to kiss her and to hold her as she was still his wife.

He missed those days when they were young and unconscious of what the future held for them. Ricki was the sexiest girl he had ever met and she was so attracted by his seriousness and they both loved each other jobs...until their jobs didn't become the obstacle to their perfect relationship and family. She wanted to tour with her band, he didn't want to move from his company, so they started arguing all the time and supported each other less time after time.

Now that Pete was retired, it would have been a better moment to follow Ricki's crazy musical dreams, but her band was breaking up and so were her dreams.

The next day Pete went to get Ricki from the airport. It was incredible how beautiful she was, age didn't mean a thing to her.

He kissed her cheek, but "wrongly" touched also the side of her lips.

-Great beginning!- he thought, hoping nothing else would have happened.

At home, Ricki put her suitcases in the bedroom and took a bath to relax from the flight.

In the meanwhile, Pete cooked the lunch. Ricki had never been a good cook and had lost the habit of eating sophisticated meals accompanied by a good red wine.

When she saw the table, she made a shocked expression that made Pete smile.

After lunch, she felt full as never before, but instead of going to sleep, she was forced by Pete to wash all the dishes with him.

It wasn't boring at all. Every now and then Pete softly touched her back, pretending it was just a matter of room. Ricki didn't believe him at all, but she was happy to receive some affect by him.

Plus, Ricki had some fun splashing him in the face with some cold water and the fun multiplied each time Pete did respond to  her doing the same thing. They ended up in a sort of water war and all the forniture in the kitchen got wet.

At least, their love for each other had made them feeling like the best of friends on Earth.

Later they sat on the couch and talked about their lives since the last time they had met.

It was a year before, but it was for just some brief days.

Looking at Ricki, Pete got to understand how she was really feeling and hugged her, not knowing what to say.

His marriage with Maureen wasn't that good anymore: since all their children had started living on their own, life was emptier and Maureen wasn't able to make him feel complete, in need of nothing else. It all started being a little sadder and Pete thought it was just the price of aging.

But Ricki was different, she made him feel good, more than he could expect and his heart bumped faster each time their looks met.  That truly was love, he tried to deny it, especially to himself, but it was impossible and maybe that was the right chance to show her his feeling.

While Pete was hugging her, Ricki felt protected, at home. "The Flash" had been her family for a long time and each time she had to come back to Indianapolis, she felt embarrassed, almost scared; in that moment though, Pete's arms were the perfect shelter from all the delusions out there and she didn't want that cute and rare moment to end for anything at all.
