AMBER KINGSTON despised the subway. She was positive that there was nothing she hated more than that noisy ass train. Somehow angry business men screaming into their phones, local runaways pondering over their wasted youth and heartbroken girls crying was just too much for the fire haired college girl to take.
But the cherry on top of the cake was the noise. While many found the noise of the subway rather comforting as it blocked out the screams in their heads, Amber was rather against it. She preferred the comforting and secure blanket of silence instead.
Amber was a simple girl, there was not much to her, she was in college on scholarship, she had a roommate she was way to awkward around, had a car that broke down way too often and a crush on the hottest boy in school who, of course, had a girlfriend.
In conclusion, there was not much to her. To any onlooker, she would've just looked like a simple fire haired girl with glasses and an enormous amount of freckles gracing her face. She was simple, ordinary, period.
But then again, the ones hiding in plain sight are always the ones with the dodgiest stories. So, that said evening was just like any other, Amber waiting for her train and mentally stating all the reasons she hates the subway. But subconsciously, Amber knew there was something different, around her, in the air. Everything tasted acidic and bitter, like foreshadowing what was to come.
And just like that Amber heard screams. Noise in a subway? Sure. But screaming seemed like people were taking it too far. Whatever is the trend these days, I guess, was all Amber could seem to think. Then, it came again, another wave of screams, it seemed like everybody in that station was keen on turning each other tone deaf.
Noise? Sure, but this was borderline commotion. Curiosity eventually got the best of her, as it did every female protagonist in a book ever, Amber just had to check it out. Making her wave through the heard of onlookers was annoying in itself, but what Amber saw, that was even worse.
Four boys all piled upon each other swaying their hands and feet as if paralyzed ducklings. Fucking seriously? Is this how people fight these days, God save us all.
What seemed even more ridiculous was the fact that everybody was just admiring the supposed fight scene, nobody was making any attempt at stopping it but still felt the need to scream their hearts off when another punch was landed upon one of their faces. This is it man, was Amber's final thought before she decided to lessen the subway guards work.
"Hey, you. You guys!! Break it up! And right now, I don't know what the hell you are thinking fighting like immature kids on the subway platform but the commotion you're all causing is definitely not worth it. Now, get off each other and take this elsewhere!" Damn, I sound like someone's mother. Out of all the tsunami of emotions Amber was feeling at that point. Sheer relief was the most prominent.
