The feeling of a soft and warm blanket wrap around my skin, as I tug on the blanket some more. Laying there quietly, only the sound of a ballad playing could be heard throughout my crowded room.
"I'm looking for you along the stars in the night sky,
I hope you just stop it now and come back.."
Humming along to the soft beats of the song, I heard a voice yell from the stairs outside of my room. Picking up my phone to lower the volume, I listened again and I heard my name being called.
"AME!"
Throwing my legs off edge of the bed, I got up and opened my door quickly to walk towards the staircase. Seeing my mom standing at the bottom of the staircase, her hair was tied in a messy bun while a few pieces of her honey brown hair framed her face. She noticed that I was there as she motioned for me to come downstairs as I let out a reluctant groan.
Can I just throw myself down the stairs instead of walking?
As I reached the living room, my mom was already in the kitchen and looking through the fridge and started to look for what I'm assuming food?.
She starts to speak again as she pokes her head out from the fridge, "You are staying home for dinner right?"
Darting my eyes at her I held back a groan, she couldn't have just asked me this from upstairs? I'm pretty sure she knows the answer to her own question anyway.
Rolling my eyes, I went over to the kitchen to help her. "Yes, you know this already."
She lets out a small laugh as she hands me a few potatoes and vegetables. Walking to the counter, I placed them down atop of the plastic cutting board.
"Just wanted to make sure! I feel like I don't see you anymore, and you're my daughter."
I let out a loud laugh as I went over and wrapped my arms around her tightly, I kissed her cheek as I parted my lips to speak.
"Stop being dramatic okaa-san. You see me in the mornings!"
She mumbled some incoherent words as I walked back to the counter and began to wash the potatoes.
Potatoes are seriously full of dirt when you haven't washed them yet.
Mom places more vegetables and some meats down as she went to the pantry to grab more things for dinner.
As soon as I rinsed the potato's, I started to peel them carefully as I placed them into a big bowl with cold water inside. My mom came up besides me as she shooed me away with her hands, she practically shoved me out of the way.
"It's okay, I'll make your favorite tonight! Go upstairs and do whatever you were doing."
She gives me a big smile as her eyes crinkled up with happiness, returning a huge smile of my own I trekked upstairs thinking of the feast I was going to have tonight.
Croquettes, udon and salad.
Those three items are my all time favorite food that my mom makes, or has been making for me. Apparently it was all I ate when I was a kid growing up, I mean can you blame me? I'm salivating just thinking about it.
Opening and closing the door to my room, the sounds of music were playing once again. Practically throwing myself onto my blush pink comforters, the smell of fresh cotton greets my nose. Rolling to my side, I stared at the cork board I had with pictures of my friends and family. Different colors greeted each other like neighbors, all merging into one. Different color pins were holding different pictures, each with different memories behind them.
Feeling thankful that I got to experience so many things and meet so much wonderful people. A feeling of warmth washed over me as my glossy lips curved up into a smile.
