"You are an absolute jerk!" Elena growled furiously and pulled away from Jake, an amused expression tainted his features at the exasperated girl before him.

"You will never enter this room again Elena, not unless you're given permission. Understood?" Jake swiftly transformed the topic and the air suddenly turned harsh. Authority leaked off his tone of voice and that itself was enough to stir Elena into compliance at his request.

"I understand," she muttered softly making sure to take one long look at the, to some extent, lifeless girl. Even though, she had said she understood, she knew far too well that she wouldn't obey. There was something about Gabriella that struck familiarity or at least a listening association.

"Good now let's leave." Jake spoke firmly before softly pushing Elena forward.

"I can walk by myself," she grimaced before making her way out of the room, a flurry of profanities flooding her mind at his controlling behaviour. "Are you going to tell me what happened to her?" Elena sighed before slipping on her heels.

"That's something that doesn't concern you." Jake muttered, a cold expression icing over him as he continued to walk ahead of her.

"I've already seen her so why can't I know?" Elena pouted whilst trying to keep up with his fast pace as they ascended the stairs.

"Some things are better left unsaid." He seethed, the past inflicting on his securely fortified heart.

"If you expect to marry me then you're going to have to tell me these things," Elena groaned, her pearly whites latching onto her bottom lip watching him come to a stop.

"So you want to marry me?" His voice teased and consequently Elena's eyes automatically rolled in displeasure.

"Are you going to trust me?" Elena counteracted at his frank enquiry.

"I don't intend on trusting anyone, anytime soon." Jake spoke truthfully before continuing to lead her towards the set of parents.

"Most relationships are based on trust." Elena continued to edify, although her intentions were never set on marrying him she still wanted to know what she'd be getting into if her plans failed her.

"Most relationships also contain people who love each other," Jake stated in a blasé manner and Elena was certainly caught off guard, even though it was true she hadn't expected him to have pointed that out.

"You said eventually you will love me." Elena murmured at his declaration.

"I can't guarantee anything though." His voice was monotone and no sense of emotion seeped out from the words. Jake chuckled after turning into a shorter hallway, one which Elena didn't recognise seeing on the way to her accidental location. There was one wall which was made of lucid, soaring glass and on the other side of the glass wall was what she assumed to be the main dining room. On the opposing side of the glass wall was an elegantly decorated divider that was plastered with words written in Italian and a dazzling white wood carved door. "After all, you don't love me." Jake snapped her out of the daze.

"Maybe eventually I will," Elena sniggered using his previous allegations, receiving a wry chuckle from Jake.

"Let's go in," Jake pointed to the grand door that she was previously admiring; in the centre was a large lion casted in glistening gold with the word Carter engraved across its mane. "This is my grandfathers' office." He edified before slowly pushing open the door.

"Elliot?" Elena furrowed her eyebrows eyeing the familiar face; in the room were both sets of parents, Jake's grandfather and a face she hadn't seen in person, in a long time.

"Elliot De Angelis." Jake smirked before advancing forward and shaking his hand, they shared knowing glances – it was almost as if they were well acquainted.

"What are you doing here? You're supposed to be in Italy." Elena wondered aloud, her lips involuntarily parting in surprise as her eyes dampened. She looked at her mother in anticipation for some form of an answer.

"Haven't you missed your brother?" Elliot ridiculed watching a tear stroll down his beloved little sisters' cheek, his head shaking slightly at her reaction before he stood up to embrace her in a comforting hug. Everything about him had reminded her of their father, his green eyes that were flickered with brown speckles and his fresh cut dark brown hair – even his voice and subtle Italian accent radiated the influence of Romano De Angelis.

"You're supposed to be in Italy!" She frowned whilst hugging him tighter and taking the time to inhale his cherished scent. She hadn't seen her brother in over two years, he was busy in Italy taking care of his father's business, one Elena was intent not to be involved in.

"I will be returning to Italy soon, I came here for urgent matters." Elliot informed and Elena, a few more warm tears escaping her sullen orbs at the information. When he alleged urgent, he meant it.

"Please don't cry Elena, you will be returning to Italy with him." Jake chuckled softly watching her shed a few tears. Elliot however, laughed at his ability to upset his sister so effortlessly, he treasured her exceedingly and evidently the phone calls and Skype chats weren't doing them justice.

"You are taking me to Italy?" Elena beamed finally pulling away from her older brother. Her eyes glistening with glee, she had been to Italy a few times but the majority of the times were when she was younger and her memory was feeble.

"You are getting married in Italy." Alessandra beamed at the thought, a huge smile etching onto her as Elliot rolled his eyes amused.

"I never agreed to the marriage," Elena frowned; her brother had come all the way here for a marriage that wasn't even confirmed yet. That fact alone had managed to upset her, she had missed him so much she was planning to fly out there to accompany him on Christmas but it was apparent he was here for other reasons than missing her.

"That's why I came here, it's about the proposal." Elliot spoke firmly although his actions begged to differ; the way he'd tug at the short hair on the nape of his neck educated Elena of his uneasy nature. "You will be marrying him Elena."
