"Do you wanna kill yourself with me?"
Keith felt the atmosphere whip his clothes around as he stood on the roof of the tall building. The freezing wind stung his eyes and blurred his vision as he tried to keep them focused on the calm boy that danced on the edge. Lance's hair was freckled with the same snowflakes that caused the white fog over the buildings. Lance turned his head to face the grey city. The violent wind pushed Keith's body, making even standing difficult.
Keith shielded the snow from his eyes, "Lance, you don't have to do this." The wind pushed their voices away from each other as they spoke over it.
Lance turned his head back to Keith with a calm expression and held out his hand, "Come with me. We can be together."
A strong gust of wind caused Keith to stumble a little. He regained his balance and calmly inched forward, "Lance, it doesn't have to be like this."
Lance lowered his arm and took a step back, getting closer to the edge. His shoes kicked snow into the wind with every movement.
Keith stopped moving and held his hands up defensively, "Please step down from there." Keith tried to keep his voice calm and upbeat, but it shook too much.
Lance slowly shook his head, keeping his eyes locked on Keith. He turned his head again to take in the view of the blizzard. "I don't wanna go back there."
Keith forced a smile, "You don't have to. You can come with me."
Lance ignored his pleas, "I don't want to live like that anymore. They're so mean." His voice choked up and a tear was swept away the wind, "It's too painful."
Keith's eyes overflowed, "You have me now, it's alright. I'm here with you. Please step down from there and come here."
Lance kicked a shoe off and let it fall into the white below.
Keith panicked, "Please come here! We can go get some hot chocolate and curl up in blankets on my couch."
Lance let his other shoe drop, wetting his socks with the fresh snow.
Keith raked his mind in an attempt to find anything to distract him, "Do you remember when I first talked to you?"
Lance stopped and turned back to the weeping boy out of curiosity.
"You were so kind. I had never met anyone as bright as you, so I struggled to find the right words." Keith spoke slowly to waste as much time as possible.
Lance smiled, "I thought you were annoying."
Keith smiled back, "Yeah, you did. You thought I was being an asshole." Keith's hands stung from the cold and his fingers were numb from punching the wall. "We had a lot of fun times, do you remember those?"
Lance smiled, but it wasn't out of happiness. A few tears fell from his face and he nodded slowly. He turned back to the edge of the roof and leaned over, holding his hands behind his back. "Do you think this is high enough to kill me?"
Keith let out a defeated and frightened breath, "Lance come here, come hug me. You look very cold."
Lance turned back to him, "Yeah, I am really cold." He laughed hysterically, "It's freezing out here!"
"What a crazy January blizzard," Keith forced a laugh and took a slow step forward, "Tomorrow is supposed to be alright. We could have a snowball fight or build a snowman."
Lance closed his eyes and let himself soak up the violent wind and snow. After a few moments, he opened his eyes and smiled sweetly at Keith, "That would've been fun."
Keith swallowed hard, "Let's do it. Let's go back."
Lance kept his smile and closed his eyes calmly as he slowly shook his head. When he opened them, he turned around to face the city.
"Lance!"
Lance lifted his arms up slowly and deliberately. His ice-cold fingers gripped the snow that fell onto them.
"Lance, please!"
Lance lowered his arms to turn his head back toward Keith, "Thank you for everything."
"Lance!" Keith's voice was hysterical, filled with fear and desperation.
Lance shot him a sweet smile and took a step over the edge.
"No!"
