Chapter 1

"This case is mind boggling!" detective John's voice rang through my memory. I didn't believe him at the time but now I do. Every day a diamond is stolen either from a jeweler or one from the crowned jewels itself! My wavy bright red hair swished as I walked down a busy London street.

"On your way home?" I heard a voice call out from the crowd.

"Oliver! Hello! Did you finish selling your papers?" I asked politely as a boy my age came running up to me.

"Emma! I'm always the first to finish!" He laughed as he brushed a lock of black hair out of his face.

"So I'm guessing that means your not done?" I said as I looked him in the eye with a mocking face.

"Noooooo and please don't tell my mum!" He fake wailed. We both laughed.

"I'm pretty sure everyone who just heard that thinks we should be in a mental hospital." I whispered to him.

"Maybe they're right," he whispered back then he waved goodbye and went back to selling newspapers.

As I entered my house I heard someone upstairs. As quietly as I could I snuck upstairs. I pulled my small revolver out of my coat. I pushed open the door and pointed my revolver at the intruder, but there was no one in the room.

"That's strange....." I thought to myself as I looked for signs of how the intruder came in.

"The door was locked when I came in... The Window!!!!!!" I raced to the window a ladder was propped up against the side of the house! I slide down the ladder and raced out onto the sidewalk but the intruder was gone.
