The serene silence of the sleeping Mistakes was interrupted by a loud alarm that blared through the hallway. The intercom of the room made a loud static noise that was followed by a monotonous voice, "All mistakes in Hallway 23 must report to Docking Bay 5 for rations and Transport preparations."
"Five more minutes," says the half awake Alex, and they roll off their cot onto the metal floor with a bang, "IM UP!!!" 19 and 33 glare at Alex as they each get up in an orderly manner, because they are not really morning people but they make do.
The three stand in front of the door to their room, and it opens automatically, revealing a group of about thirty other Mistakes walking at a rather quick pace down the hall. The trio joins the group, and all proceed down the hallway to Docking Bay 5.
Once they arrive at the Docking Bay, things are fairly straight forward from there. All the Mistakes receive their rations, which they were instructed to eat quickly. By the time Alex is finished with half their ration square, all the other Mistakes were already clumped on the other side of the room. "Okay, okay, I get it," Alex shoved the rest of their ration square into their mouth and joined the rest of the group across the Docking Bay.
A young man in a military uniform with a clipboard in his hand walks in front of the group. He clears his throat, "Would 2316 please step forward." The group shuffles as Mistake 2316 walks to the front of the group. Their head is hanging down, as though they thought they were about to be punished. The young man looks at them, "Is it true that your ability," he pauses with a look of disgust on his face, "is that you can teleport anywhere in the world?"
The teen mumbles something under their breath. "Could you repeat that," the young man says. "Ye- yes sir," 2316 says, "that... that is true."
"Do you know the capabilities of your powers?"
"Somewhat sir. I have never tested their full capabilities."
"Do you think you could teleport a group of this size?" The man motions towards the group of Mistakes.
"Probably, sir. But I can't guarantee anything, sir."
"Well, I suggest you get going. Here are the coordinates of the location you will be taking everyone." He hands the teen the clipboard. They look at the coordinates, nod, and walk over to the group.
"Everyone, cluster into as tight of a group as you can," 2316 instructs them. All the Mistakes bundle tightly together, shrinking the radius of the group by about a third. Then, 2316 began to concentrate, and a blue-ish light emitted from their midsection in a sphere. The sphere grew until it held all the Mistakes within it. Then there was a flash of light, loud screams from the Mistakes, and suddenly the group wasn't at the research center any more.
Everyone looked around, and they all started to be really loud as they took in their surroundings. The island was hot, humid, and green as all heck. (AN: "As all heck". That's a technical term.)
Suddenly, a loud horn rang throughout the dense tropics the Mistakes found themselves in, followed by another monotonous voice "The Mistakes have arrived. They should note that they should find cover before nightfall. While here, you fend for yourself." Another bright flash of light, and groups of Mistakes vanished, and seemed to reappear in different spots around the island, based of the dispersal of voices.
Somehow, 19, 33, and Alex managed to stay together throughout this whole ordeal. All three of them rushed to find a possible shelter, as the sky took on the red and purple hues that signified that nightfall was near. It was 19 who found the shelter the group used. Nearby, an old resource box stripped of all its contents was left open, and it fit the three perfectly.
"Well," said Alex, as the three tucked in for the night, noting but the bottom of the box for a bed and nothing that could be used as a blanket in sight, "I am getting slightly tired of you two not having names. Would it be cool with you guys if I gave you some?"
"Sure," said 33, and a grunt came from 19's direction, which Alex took to mean "yes". There was some silence as Alex thought. "33, you seem like a Sam to me, and 19, you seem like a Cameron."
Sam approved their new name, and Cameron grunted again, which Alex took as a sign of approval. "Well, I guess it is time for us to hit the rock," Alex said.
"Uh, don't you mean hit the sack?" Sam said, looking at Alex suspiciously.
"Yeah, my bad."
The next morning, Sam and Cameron were up with the sun. Alex continued in their deep sleep, with their snores irritating the two early-birds. Sam nodded to Alex, and pantomimed waking them up, to which Cameron just shrugged.
The two made their way back to the area where the Mistakes had originally been dropped off, and found that this was common practice among the island's inhabitants. The two quickly noticed that there seemed to be a divide between the mass group of people.
One of the two sections drew Sam's attention. They all seemed peaceful, and that they wished to avoid a fight. Sam walked over to the group, and asked why everyone seemed so nice and peaceful. One stepped forward, and introduced themselves to Sam as 2338. "We are what are known as pacifists," 38 says. Sam looked at them inquisitively, when 38 continues, "we don't want to fight other people, we believe that there is a way to find peace between everyone."
'Huh', Sam thought, 'that sounds a lot like me'. "Would it be okay with you all if I hung out with you more often?"
Meanwhile, Cameron is investigating the other group. These people seemed slightly more aggressive than the other group, as though they were fed up with the condition they were all in. Cameron clears their throat, and the group looks towards them. One person rises, and walks towards Cameron. "Well," they say, leaning over Cameron in an intimidating fashion, "what do we have here?"
"I-uh-I noticed you all seemed fed up with how we are treated here, and-uh- I-I feel the same way. I was wondering, have you all considered the thought of starting a revolution? If not, I was contemplating how that would be done while looking for a place to camp out, so I have some ideas."
There were a few seconds of silence, and Cameron was terrified for their life when the supposed leader of the group patted them on the back, "welcome to the group, kid. Name's 2327. Now, tell us, what's your plan?"
(AN: See! I told you people this was going to be a long chapter! Not including this author's note, this chapter is 1143 words long. I feel accomplished. Back to your regularly scheduled programming :3)
