"I can explain.
"This all started about two days ago, when my mom had two of her friends over. They didn't mean any harm. The three of them were just hanging out together, talking about this new movie that came out, or something along those lines" Alex's lip quivered, and their eyes seemed to start to gloss over.
"I don't know exactly what happened, but something in my dad just snapped. We live near the woods, and have multiple firearms in the house, because my dad loves to hunt. He suddenly got all angry and got one of the guns from somewhere, I can't remember where exactly. I ran and hid in my room in fear, but after the first two gunshots rang out, a silence followed, and I ventured out into the living room to investigate.
"There, when I peeked around the corner, I saw Mom's two friends laying in pools of blood. It was one of the most sickening things I had ever seen in my life, and I feel queasy just thinking about it. I peeked even further around the corner, and saw Mom, begging for mercy, while Dad had the gun pointed at her head. He just wouldn't listen. A third gunshot rang out, and I looked away, not wanting to subject myself to seeing my mother's brains blown out. She was dead, just like the others.
"I should have ran then, but I didn't, because I am an idiot.
"Dad turned around, and his eyes narrowed when he saw me. He raised the gun, and pointed it at my gut. A gunshot rang out, and I expected to feel pain, to pass out, to die, anything other than what happened.
"A few seconds later, I discovered that I was still standing. I was not dead, by some miracle of nature! There was, however, a hole clean through my midsection. Then, Dad fired again, and the same sequence of actions repeated. This continued for 11 more cycles. There was no call to the police because, like I said earlier, we lived in the woods, so we had no neighbors or anyone near enough to actually call the police.
"Now I made the smart decision. I ran. I ran for my life. Out the front door, down the road, and to the nearby town. There, one of the agents at the facility somehow found out about me, located me, and brought me here."
"Just in time for Transport Day," 33 said. "Doesn't that seem a little too convenient," 19 whispered to 33, their voice full of suspicion. 33 laughed, "19, why do you always have to be so skeptical."
The lights in the room went out, signifying that it was time for everyone to go to bed. They were going to need a lot of rest for their upcoming journey.
