Arrival of Alex

Alex arrived one day before Transport Day.

That is the first of many unusual things about the new inhabitant of 19 and 33's room. Generally speaking, children are brought in years before Transport Day, not hours. That also meant that Alex didn't have a number. Well, they were given a number, but they never cared to disclose that number to anyone, and they preferred to be called by their name.

They also did not show any signs of having any powers, which was strange, because powers have become fully developed by this time. Alex appeared to be completely normal. They were, however, extremely secluded, and never told anyone anything unless prompted. Even then, Alex's answers seemed scripted, as though they were programmed into their brain.

They also talked to themselves a lot. That part is fairly normal, because most Mistakes talked to themselves. The odd part was that the language they spoke in, it wasn't English, or Spanish, or any other language that existed on Earth. It consisted mostly of trills and clicks, which aggravated the Mistakes in the neighboring room, who had sensitive hearing.

Just, over all, Alex was an extremely weird person who did not fit the norm of how things were run at the research center.

Things continued to get weirder as the day before Transport continued on. As per the facility's protocol, all the Mistakes being transported got special uniforms that they had to put on the night before. These uniforms, which consisted of a t-shirt and slightly baggy pants, were a pale olive green, which contrasted both the usual grey outfits they were provided with every day and the stark white walls of the rooms.

33 got changed the quickest, as per usual, and they got the shock of their life when they turned around. 33 saw Alex just as they were pulling their shirt down, and Alex had about 13 holes in their bullet holes in their abdomen. They should not have been alive at this point.

33 gasped, "Alex... how do- how- how are you still ALIVE?!?" That is when 19 turned around, and they almost feinted.

Alex glanced back at 33, then down at their abdomen, "oh... that doesn't normally happen?"

"No!!!" 33 screamed. "Okay then," Alex said, their nose crinkling with focus, as if they were trying to remember something. After a few seconds of tense silence, Alex finally seemed to remember what they were forgetting, "I can explain."
