Chapter 1
Outsiders POV:
Have you ever watched one of those scary movies where someone goes down into the basement when they're told not to? And you wonder why they don't run back up their creaky stairs but instead explore the demons world.
Well maybe they can't run.
Let's start off by going into detail on our first character; AnnaKate Waters.
A skinny, gorgeous girl with shiny black locks that fall just below her ribs. She's gorgeous in a way that you wouldn't make fun of her for being ugly. Yet, people still make fun of her just not for that reason.
The girl lives with her grandma that never leaves their huge mansion. She used to be real close with her mom. They would take me on fishing trips, camping trips, and almost any other thing they did together.
I could see the way she smiled at her mother. The admiring, almost jealous smile that she gave so often.
But almost 3 years ago now, her mother went to take the usual metro bus to work that day. She was 10 minutes away from her office in New York City when a similar metro bus crashed into the back of her mother's bus.
Luckily, the accident only involved 8 people getting injured/dying out of the 46 total passengers. It was 5 men, 2 women, and one 12 year old. The unfortunate news was that AnnaKate's mother was one of them.
After the funeral which was 2 days after the accident, AnnaKate began to shut everyone out of her life. She moved into her grandmas mansion, and rumors began swirling that AnnaKate had something to do with the bus crash.
She didn't take it too well and started staying in her house, every day 24/7. Nobody knew what was going on in her life, and nobody wanted to.

Chapter 2
AnnaKate's POV:
I sat at my window up in the dusty little attic writing in my journal. Today was Sunday. Mourning Day.
Usually this day was my most hated day, the one day of the week I had to be reminded of every dead person in my family (up until roughly 1900). But strangely today, I felt rather excited because I got to look through old photo albums with Gram, scanning each column for memories of my mom.
When I had been staring out my window for about 20 minutes Gram called from downstairs, "AnnaKate come down! Your family is here!"
The only people that ever got to be inside the mansion which I lived in were Gram, my relatives, and myself.
I heard quiet chatter as I tiptoed down the stairs. I'm not one for making a big appearance. You can call me shy I guess. A voice called from downstairs where I couldn't see.
"Hey AnnaKate!" It was my cousin. MaryKate. I rounded the hallway and came face to face with the most beautiful girl you would see in your entire life. The girl had black hair like me, but so much fuller and longer. Her eyes were a nice ocean blue with a streak of gray. She had a beautiful figure too, curves where they were supposed to be and she was skinny at the same time.
"Hello MaryKate." I half whispered, giving her a small hug.
"How have you been cooped up in this place?" She asked.
I nodded as if to say fine.
She sighed. "AnnaKate, just because your mom got hit by a bus doesn't mean you will."
I love the way MaryKate makes Mourning Day sadder then it sounds. But out loud I responded with a small "mhmm".
And at that moment, I felt all eyes turned on me. My cheeks began to swell a bright pink. Hopefully the rest of my family doesn't really know what happened to my mother.
I felt a tap on my shoulder. Mom. I thought. But it was just MaryKate.
"Are you alright?" She asked.
I smiled and nodded. But really I wasn't.
Halfway through Mourning Day, I was feeling annoyed with all of the people in my home, and just wanted to curl up on my window seat and look outside.
It's not easy, being asked 10,000,000 questions about your mother when she's dead. It's especially not easy when you have to lie about some answers.
After being asked the question, "What was the last memory you had with your mom?" the seventh time (I counted) I decided to go get some fresh air.
The farthest I've been outside my home in the past 3 years is my front porch, and that's where I sat now. MaryKate apparently saw me slip out the door because she plopped down next to me on the brick step.
We sat in silence for a good 10 minutes until two girls rode by on their bikes. MaryKate grunted. "I hate them." She usually never hates anyone so i made sure to pay careful attention when they were close enough to see.
"They look exactly the same MaryKate." I said to her.
"Yeah, because they're twins." She responded. "Alexa and Raena Robbins. The biggest scams that God has ever brought to the face of this Earth."
I laughed. "How bad can they be?" MaryKate looked at me in horror.
"You really don't know, do you?"
I shook my head because, no I really didn't. MaryKate took a sharp inhale and her face looked a little more paler than usual.
"The twins and their family think you and Gram have a secret." She spat in disgust. I was confused. "What kind of secret?"
"A secret that goes like this: they think something happened to your mother besides the bus accident" She laughed. "How stupid can people get? The important thing is that you, Gram, and I know it's not true, right?"
This time it was my turn to turn pale.
I didn't respond because... It was true.
