Fuck you, Cara, I think when I realize she'd taken the only key to our apartment and locked me out.
I'd already had a rough enough day without having to break into my own house to find my girlfriend missing.
I groan and throw down my bag before going over to the living room window and pushing it open. Thank god we live on floor level. As I awkwardly thrust one leg into the building to climb through, my foot catches on the window pane, pitching me forward and dumping me on the floor in a grumbling pile. I could kill Cara for this.
Cara's my girlfriend--and, in case you couldn't tell, we love each other very dearly.
A tired moan escapes my lips again as I drag myself off the ground, to the door to get my bag and then back inside.
"I'm home!" I call out of habit. The only response I receive is my own voice echoing off the walls of the empty apartment. Not that I was expecting a real one anyway.
Cara's probably just out with her girl friends as usual, I figure. I plop down onto our bed, pulling out my phone and dialing her number. It goes straight to voicemail, which isn't anything new to me. She goes out all the time without telling me (and she's her own person with her own life, so she shouldn't have to) so I don't think much of it.
Curled under the covers on my side of our full-sized bed, I feel my eyelids growing heavy and soon find myself drifting off to sleep. Cara's absence isn't much different than usual, so I don't notice when she never climbs into bed beside me.
