Once upon a time, there was a land filled with magic, happiness, and rainbows. It was untouched by man. There was a special place that produced all the magic. It was a little meadow with a special lake made of rainbows. It reminds you of all the happiness in your life. It also is where the rainbows come from. When the sun was shining bright after a rainstorm and hit the lake just right, then the water would churn and a rainbow would fly out and spread across the sky. These rainbows were special. They never would disappear. They would hold the power of the lake and remind you of all the good in your life. That was what made this land so happy and full of rainbows.
This is why it was magical. This land was inhabited by a very special kind of animal. This land was inhabited by unicorns. These unicorns were a special breed. They all had different kinds of horns. They all had a gold lining that held the magic. These horns stood for different things and they were all different materials. One was made of ruby, which stood for love and helpfulness. One was made of pearl, which stood for innocence and wisdom. Another was made of gold, which stood for wealth and good fortune. Another was emerald, which stood for pride and envy. One was made of silver, which stood for honesty and strength. One was dirt, which stood for humility and selflessness. Each of these horns had a certain amount of magic it could give after the unicorn gave it away. But, you couldn't take it by force. You could only get it if the unicorn gave it willingly. Also, the element that the horn was made of would disappear after the horn was given. Only the gold lining that held the magic would stay.
The unicorns would be born with a pearl horn. On the year they turned eight years old, when the first flower bloomed after winter, they would all go to the lake that made the rainbows. The young foul would go into the waters until they were completely under. (The water couldn't drown them, of course. It would be like breathing air.) The lake's currents would sift through the young foul's mind and memory and see which kind of horn would suit them. Then, the currents would swirl around their horn and change it to the one that fit the foul. Then, the young unicorn would hear the waters woosh in their ear you're ready. Then, they would burst through the water to the rest of the unicorns. The elders would bellow " This foul has been given their horn!" Then they would say the kind of horn that was given. The foul would then give their mother and father one last goodbye before going to their new society. There, they were taught how to act so that they fit in with the rest of the society.
In their land, the deceased were brought to the rainbow lake and were thrust in. The waters would churn around them and they would turn into a current. Then, a rainbow would burst across the sky. When you looked at that rainbow, you were reminded of the unicorn that passed.
Now, since the unicorns were such powerful creatures, the humans would want to hunt them or trap them. So, the lake made magical borders that only a unicorn could get past. If any creature that wasn't a unicorn looked upon the land, they would see a land so wild that they didn't even want to try to tame it. If they tried to get in, a magical wind would blow and see their intents. If they had good intents, they would be transformed into a creature and stay in the land, their memory wiped. If their intents were bad or evil, they would be turned into a withered old tree in the land. That way, the land inside would be safe. These borders kept the land safe for hundreds of years. Only the darkest of forces could penetrate it, only the blackest heart. But no one one earth could be so dark, so evil. Or so they thought.
