Always My Forever

Chapter 5

                                                              Karaline

What the hell? Okay. That was so not the reaction I was expecting. The look on Ky's face when he found out how far along I am was almost murderous. I thought he was pissed. I thought he was going to tell me to get rid of our baby just like Mason did that night all those years ago. This Whole day has been a complete shock so far. I never expected to see Ky again, let alone him walking out of my exam room with a huge smile on his gorgeous face after he realized he's going to be a father. I'm in such a daze, replaying what just transpired over and over again in my head, that I jump so high, I nearly fall off the exam room chair when the door opens and Danni yells that she's ready to see her baby sister. Poor girl just doesn't understand that she can't choose.

I expect to see Dr. Kingston walking into the room behind Danni and Ky, but when I look over I see a man I've never met before.
"Ms. Hughes, I'm doctor Rexford. It's a pleasure to meet you. Kyler tells me you'd like to get a peek at your baby? Maybe find out the gender if he or she lets us?"
"Please, call me Karaline. It's nice to meet you too. And yes, that would be great. My little Danni girl here, wouldn't let us see the entire time I was pregnant with her if she was a girl or a boy. So I'm really hoping this little one lets us see. I'd really like to have more than just gender nuetral things this time around."

Giving me a smile and a small laugh, Dr. Rexford rolls the portable ultra sound machine to the side of the exam chair and tells me to relax as he adjusts the chair all the way down until it turns into a table. I'm a little nervous and a lot excited. I really hope this little bean gives us the show we want. Don't get me wrong, I will definitely be happy with a girl or a boy, but it makes it so much more exciting when you get to shop for a theme. And lets be honest shall we? No one really wants to shop for only yellow and green baby stuff until the baby is born and you see if it comes out with a vagina or a penis.
"Are you guys ready?"
Looking over to Ky, I notice that the smile hasn't left his face. He grabs Danni's hand and they both walk over to stand on the opposite side on the exam table from Dr. Rexford. "Lets go cole, we're ready! Aren't we Danni?"
"Yes! Momma I wanna see my baby sister!"
"Danni girl, I want you to be prepared baby. The baby that's in my belly might be a boy."

Dr. Rexford lifts my shirt and tucks a small towel into the waistband of my jeans, then he squirts the warm jell on my stomach and begins the ultrasound.
"Okay guys, the baby is measuring perfect. Right on track for how far along you are. I would put your due date right around November sixth. Baby has all ten fingers and toes, and if you look closely you can see that she has some hair already."
"She?" We ask at the same time, with equal parts excitement and aw.
"Babe, we're going to have a daughter! Hell yeah!" Turning to Danni, Ky picks her up off the exam table and tosses her in the air.
"Do you know what that means pretty girl? It means you're getting your wish. You're gonna have a little sister!"
"Yay! Momma, I'm gonna have a sister. Now I won't have yucky boogers on all of my toys!"
Laughing, I wipe the tears from my eyes and look over to Ky. He's so damn happy right now. If I'm not mistaken, I just saw him wipe a tear away.
"Alright guys, everything looks great, so we are done for the day. Karaline, on your way out make sure to stop in with Sadie and make an appointment for 4 weeks. Do you have any questions before I go?"
Shaking my head no, I look over at Ky to see if he has anything he wants to ask Dr. Rexford. Shaking his head, he starts to chuckle.
"No man, I think I know how this goes, but if you don't mind I'm gonna walk Kara and Danni out. I'll be back in about fifteen minutes." Handing me a small wad of paper towels to wipe my stomach off, he steps towars the door.
"That's fine Kyler. Karaline, Danni, it was nice meeting you both and I look forward to seeing you in 4 weeks. Enjoy the rest of your day."

Taking Danni's hand, I lead her out of the exam room and to the receptionists desk to make my next appointment. Once we get to Sadies desk she asks me what day and time will work best for me. I'm about to answer her when Ky steps up beside me and tells her to wait a second before she schedules  my appointment.
"Sadie, could you please go into my schedual first, for that same week, and see what I still have open that will match up to what Karaline needs? I want you to block out my schedule for whatever time Karaline chooses, that way I'll be able to be there."
Thankfully it's a quick process because that just made me super fucking emotional! I'm a little overwhelmed with Ky's reaction to the entire situation that we're in, and I just can't help it, I start to tear up. I'm glad when Ky grabs my hand and leads us outside to my car so I don't embarrass myself in front of Sadie and everyone else in the office.

Once we reach my car, which I was finally able to upgrade last year to a slightly used 2014 Kia Optima, I quickly help Danni buckle into her booster seat and close the door. Turning around, Ky grabs my hand again and leads me to the back of the car so Danni doesn't hear our conversation.
"What's the matter baby?"
"I'm so sorry. I never meant for this to happen, I swear. And now that it is, you're being so cool about the entire situation. And Lets just say that when I got pregnant with Danni, her piece of shit father told me to get an abortion. When I told him that I couldn't do that, he told me he didn't want anything to do with either one of us and that he was signing his parental rights away."
I've now gone from a small sniffle to full on sobs. Lovely. I'm sure I look real good right now. Bawling my eyes out and wiping snot from my face with the back of my hand. Real attractive Karaline.

"That is not me Kara. I swear. I know we don't know eachother yet, but I want you. I want this. I want this baby. And Eventually I'd like to become a family. I know it's not going to happen over night, but we'll get there baby. Danni's dad did a shit thing, but I'm not him Kara. I will always be here for you and our baby."
"But thats just it Ky. It's not just me and our baby. I have Danni too."
Grasping my chin between his thumb and his pointer finger, he urges me to look up at him. Once he senses he has my attention he lets his hand fall back to his sides.
"Look at me Kara."
I look into his deep brown eyes, and I'm suprised at the emotion I see there. He has tears in his eyes that I wasn't expecting. Stepping towards me, he wipes my own tears away with his thumbs, then cradles me in this strong arms.
"I know this is going to be hard. I'm not saying it won't be. What I am saying is that I'm here. I'm here for you and Danni both. I know you're a package deal. I wouldn't expect anything else. I'm saying I'm here now, I'll be here tomorrow, and every day after that. I want us to get to know each other and give this thing a real shot. I'm telling you right now, I'm not going to be a part time father, baby. So we will make this work."
Crying harder than before, I burry my face in his chest and give him a muffled "okay."
"Okay good. Now wipe your tears before you get in the car. I don't want Danni to get upset, then put your number in my phone so I can call you when I get off of work."

After wiping my face, I do as he asks and program my number into his phone. As I'm handing the phone back to him, he grabs my wrist and pulls me into a hug.
"Alright baby, I have to get back to work. I only have about 3 more hours left. How about we go get some dinner later on tonight? And when I say we I mean you, me, and Danni, okay?"
"Um yeah, that sounds good. Danni loves pizza, our favorite place isn't too far from our house."
He starts to pull away to go back to work, but he seems to reconsider and takes a step back towards me. Slowly, he gets down on one knee so that he's eye level with my belly and my very tiny baby bump. Looking up at me, he tentatively reaches his hand out to lift my shirt and touch my stomach.
"Can I, baby?"
Slowly shaking my head, I let out a quiet "yes."
Leaning forward, Ky runs small circles over my belly. Looking down at him, I see that he once again has tears in his eyes. Moving slower than I've ever seen anyone move before, Ky bends forward to bring his lips to my stomach and begins to whisper.
"I swear, daddy will always do everything I can to take care of you."
Giving my stomach one more quick kiss, He stands and pulls me into a strong embrace.
"That goes for you and Danni too. Okay baby?"
Apparently that was a rhetorical question, because after a smoldering kiss, he turns and walks back into work. And right there in the parking garage, I lose the first piece of my heart to Kyler Jacobs.
