Chapter 25

'Come on guys let's get a move on,' Ky said surprisingly happy. Probably because he got to sleep beside the one he loves.

Even though it is against the law, they don't need to be half as worried as me if they fall in love as they will always be in the same universe.

We carried on walking, our Kalakins following right behind. After they glowed in the dark last night, I was wondering about what  else they would be capable of.

'Hey!' Stella said slapping my back, grinning at me.

'Hi,' I said, quietly.

'What's wrong?' Stella asked me.

Tori then tagged along and hugged me from the back and said 'Hey what you talking about?' with a huge grin.

'Well Kat won't tell me,' Stella still smirking, taking it as a joke.

'Look, guys I just don't know what to do,' I said looking behind me at Theo and Ky who were also deep in conversation.

'About what?' Tori said, smiling. 'We can't help if you don't talk to us,' she added.

'Yeah, it's true, you have been a bit distant lately,' Stella said.

'There has just been a lot on my mind,' I said, breathing deeply.

Theo's POV

I walked with Ky, a few metres away from the girls who were probably having their own deep conversations. Ky and I stayed silent for a while as I wasn't sure what to talk about.

There was a lot happening at the moment and my feelings were beginning to become overwhelmingly strong.

'Theo, earth to Theo,' Ky said, snapping me out of my daydream.

'Yeah,' I said startled. 'What's wrong?' I asked.

'Nothing, I just wanted to see if you were ok?' He replied. 'I know when something is wrong man, I have known you since we were little kids running around in our nappies,' he added.

This made me chuckle and we ended up both laughing.

'Yeah, you do know me well,' I said still not sure what to say.

'Come on, you can trust me,' he said, his eyes flashing a bright blue.

I can tell from his eyes that he is being sincere. Our eyes show a range of emotions and I can tell what anyone is like just by their eyes.

'I...I... think I might have feelings for someone I shouldn't,' I said, not wanting to tell him who, in case he reacted badly.

'Ok... and what's wrong with that?' He replied.

'Well.... she is kind of not part of my element,' I said staring down at the ground, waiting for him to tell me off.

Instead all I heard was silence. I looked up and saw him staring straight ahead at the girls. I could see that he was looking at someone in particular, Tori.

'I knew it,' I whispered, snapping him out of his daydream now.

'What?' He said trying to act casual.

'Don't you dare do that!' I said raising my eyebrows at him. 'You know exactly what I'm talking about,' I said smirking, proud of myself.

All of a sudden we heard screaming, not just a little, playful scream.

A deafening shrill.

Kat's POV

We had just finished talking about Theo and Ky, when we heard a high-pitched scream.

It kept on ringing.

I looked around trying to see where it was coming from but it just kept echoing, on and on.

I tried to follow its source as best as I could, the others following behind.

All of a sudden I stopped in my tracks. In this little clearing there were five people, all from the academy, lying lifeless on the floor. Blood was dripping from their mouths and from gaping wounds in their sides. But instead of their blood being red, it was black.

The others caught up to me, panting out of breathe.

It took a while for them to noitce but when they did, their faces dropped. They went pale, like milk and and their eyes clouded over.

'What happened?' Stella said, her voice breaking a little.

'Quick see if anyone is alive,' Ky said, not answering Stella's question.

We checked the bodies as quickly as possible, my hope fading each time we checked a body.

'Wait, she's alive,' Theo said crouching down on the floor next to a girl with brunette hair. I vaguely recognised her but I wasn't at the Academy long enough to get to know everyone.

'It's Charlotte,' Tori said, joining Theo on the floor.

I sat down as well and held her hand. If I was in her situation, I wouldn't want to be alone.

There was a lot of blood surrounding her body, she wouldn't last much longer.

'What happened?' I ask her not expecting an answer.

Her eyes began to close but her mouth started moving.

At first the only sound that came out was a strange croak, she tried again, finding it harder each time. I could see the life slowly slipping out of her.

I squeezed her hand tighter, wishing I could do something but even though I had so much power, I did not have an enchantment strong enough to bring back a life. Once that was done, it could never be undone.

Just before she closed her eyes, she whispered something.

'Leave before it's too late!'

She took in one last deep breathe and then stopped.

My heart missed a beat.

We were in trouble, a lot more than I thought.
