I slowly opened the back door, trying to be as quiet as possible.

"Dude, can you be a little quick I need to use the washroom," Reuben whispered. This idiot.

I quietly made my way towards the stairs but was distracted by the noise coming from my mom's room. I made my way towards her room and opened the door to check on her but instead, I bellowed, "What the fuck, Mom?!"

Okay. Did I just saw my mom, half naked, making out with a guy I didn't even know? Who the fuck was he?

Looks like she is forgetting to tell me something.

Well, that just made my day awesome.

"Jer! Are you okay? I heard you shout. Where is mom? Is she fine? Wha-" Reuben bombarded me with questions but before he could ask anything further, I slapped him.

"What the hell was that for?!" he yelled, placing his palm on the same cheek.

"That was for not shutting up! You ask and ask and ask. Don't you have a pause button?!" I answered irritatingly.

"Now, go on and answer the question."

"Nothing happened. Everything is absolutely fine. It's just my mom making out with some guy that I don't know, nothing important or worth wasting time on." I said sarcastically.

"Uhh...Yeah, about that," he started, as if he was a kid who was caught red handed while stealing candies.

"You knew about it, didn't you?" I accused him. He knew about it and didn't even have the courtesy to tell me. This is about my mom but he knows about it before me. I understand that he calls my mom 'Mom' but that doesn't give him the right to know everything before me.

As you all can see, I am super pissed.

"You see, it's not what it looks like," he started while scratching the back of his neck.

"Oh really? Then what-"

"Listen to me," he tried to reason.

"-is it? Because I sure as hell - Owwww!"

This time he was the one to slap and I was the one covering the, now red, cheek. That idiot slaps too hard.

"Now let me speak!" he shouted and then calmly continued, "I know about him just because I overheard her conversation with him, okay?! You know me, I can't keep my mouth shut, I had to ask her about it and when I did she said that she didn't want me to know first or in that way. She wanted to tell you first, in fact, she was going to tell you today, but you guys got into an argument and she couldn't tell you."

If she is seeing a person then why was she staring at our old pics with them? And she could've told me before. With what I saw today, it was clear that they know each other from a quite time.

"Why tell now?" I asked, hurt. She should've directly told me that she was seeing someone.

"Because he came to meet you today."

Before I could express my shock, the door opened and mom came in, thankfully decent.

"I'll be downstairs." Reuben said, making one last eye contact with me as if saying 'Stay Calm!' I really like this thing about him, even though he is so close to us, just like my brother, he knows when to give us some space.

The tension in the room was so thick that it could be cut with a knife. "So, I heard someone came to meet me today,"

"Look Jer-" she started but I cut her off saying, "It was decided that we wouldn't keep anything from each other, wasn't it?"
