As the fishermen all stare at me. I look at the can of green beans and put it up to my lips before the slimey beans enter my mouth. Chewing and swallowing them before looking out into the sea. The captain of the fishermen places a blanket on me before kneeling down and asking me

"How did you get to this island kid?"

"Stop it!" I scream as my mother pinches my arm in frustration. She slaps me before saying

"Look for it again! Oh my gosh you're the worst son I ever had. You stupid bitch." Mother as she walks into the bathroom and finds her other ear ring.

I gasp silently in relief as I quickly walk downstairs and grab my school bag. I walk outside to the car before she unlocks it.

9:14am

As we approach my school, silence fell. She unlocks the car door before looking at me and saying

"Get the fuck out before I kill you."

I quickly get out and close the door before walking towards the blue painted double doors. I inhale, close my eyes, and exhale before remembering to put on my nothing-to-worry-about face. I walk through the crowds and into my classroom. I. A fifth grader had scars and bruises from mother. Yesterday I was beaten by both my mother and step father. I rub my arm and close my eyes before realizing I was at the door. I walk in and take a seat before other students walk in chatting and laughing. The teacher started teaching before the class ended in a flash. The next class went by in a flash. I walk into my third class before science started. My teacher Ms. Adam puts a bulb light in a ziplock bag and slammed it against the white cement wall. I did not understand the purpose of this, but I was awed as the students were too.

12:34pm

As I walk towards the tray aisle and into the food room, I look at the options Poorly cooked mashed, a hungry man pack of microwaved salisbary steak, green peas, and three pints of milk. I ignore the food before going straight to the untouched plastic wrapped salad. I walk over to the barrel of bottled waters. I grab a bottle of water before walking to the small table.

"7890021456T" I put into the code machine before the lunch lady signals me to move on. I take a sharp left towards a small wooden table where the eating utensils are. A beige plastic forks, spoons, and knives. I pick up a fork and jam it in my back pocket before taking a seat. I grab the plastic fork from my back pocket before unwrapping the plastic off the salad box. I start to eat.

12:58pm

As lunch was nearing, I had already finished my salad. I look over to the trashcan and start to walk towards it. Dumping it, I start to walk out of the cafeteria. I turn right into a hallway before turning left and into the bathroom. Urinating, I turn around and look at myself in the mirror. Rubbing my arm, I wince in pain as I lift up my sleeve. The stitching still in place as my salt caramel skin looks lighter. I quickly put my sleeve down before going to the sink. Washing my dirty hands, I could still hear the screams of my mother and step father taking their anger out on me. I start to tremble before picking myself up. I splash water in my face before the make up covering up my scars from numerous stitches and my black eye.

"No. No! Dang it." I say before the makeup washes up.

I quickly grab some tissue from the stall and wipe the makeup from my face. I close my eyes and exhale before feeling my face. The stitching on my eyebrow and the busted lip made me wince alittlle. i walk out of the bathroom and back into Ms. Adam class. Nobody paid much attention to me as I sat in my seat. Ms, Adam gave me a concerning look before announcing to me

"Nicholas. Will you come into the hallway with me?"

My stomach fluttered with nervousness as I walk from my seat to the door. I knew what was happening. I was being interrogated again by the teachers. I have been interrogated numerous times and some way my mother made them blind to believe I was...playing rough. She would threaten me not to say anything and out of fear of what she might do to me, I obeyed her. Ms. Adams folds her arms before saying

"If anyone is threatening you to not say anything. I can protect you."

I felt safe once again and once again I said

"My mother hits me."

She pats me on my shoulder before walking back into class.

1:34pm

"May I have Nicholas Yakitzu to the front office." The intercom announces.

Ms. Adam signals me to leave before I find myself once again sitting with case worker who photograpghs my bruises. I over hear the principal say

"His mother has been contacted and she is on her way to the school."
