The sound of rain tapped the window, the reflection of the water showing on the floor and wall. A gloomy gray haze was all Dean and Castiel had for light because the power had gone out due to the storm. A few candles were lit and set strategically throughout the apartment so they could see, along with the odd scent of vanilla and butterscotch of course. Dean sat on the couch wrapped up in a gray throw blanket with a glass of whiskey and a book. Castiel sat at the opposite end writing poetry. The two sat in silence for a few hours, the only sounds were the ice in Dean's glass shifting as it melted, and Cas's pen scribbling on the page. They enjoyed each other's company even if they weren't talking to each other.

Cas sighed and rubbed his eyes. Dean snapped out of the reading trance and looked at him, but didn't lift his head, just his emerald green eyes with freckles that dotted his cheeks. Cas set his journals and pen on the floor with a soft papt. He got up from the couch and shuffled to the kitchen. the floorboards creaked under his weight, disrupting the silence. Dean watched as he went to the fridge and opened it, the sound of glass clanging in the door when he opened it. Sighing again, Castiel closed the door. He scratched his head, disheveling his already messy black hair, his tired ocean blue eyes slowly blinked as he came to sit back down on the couch next to Dean. They stared tiredly into space and the silence was restored.

Without looking away from the spot on the wall Castiel said, "Hey Dean?" with a slight pause, as if replying required immense effort, Dean simply said, "hmm.." Cas yawned for what seemed like forever before saying, "this rain is making me sleepy, I'm going to take a nap, want to join?" Dean smiled slightly, "yeah go ahead, i'm right behind you."

Dean slowly stood up, groaning slightly from not having moved in hours. Both shuffled to their bedroom, their socks sliding on the hardwood floor, and they crawled into their not-made bed. They got comfortable, Cas having his arms around Dean and they both sighed in unison and fell asleep.
