I was just on vacation over the holiday with my family it was amazing and I couldn't wait to tell my best friend all about it. I was dressed and about to head out the door when I called out to my parents.
"Bye mom and dad I am going out to see Lilly I'll be back eventually."
"Who is Lilly?"
"Guys we weren't on vacation that long even if we were Lilly is my best friend you wouldn't forget her."
"Sweetheart you don't have a friend by the name of Lilly, in fact, we don't know anyone by that name," my mom says coming down the stairs.
"Mom stop fooling around we all know Lilly she is over here practically every day."
"Avery you have no friend named Lilly, are you feeling alright?" my dad says as he exits the living room.
"Ok, whatever you guys let me know when you are done being weird and pretending you don't know Lilly, but right now I am going to go over to see her."
"Honey maybe you should lie down you are being delusional."
"Bye," I say walking out the door choosing to ignore my mother's last comment. Why are they pretending they don't know Lilly we have known each other since like the second grade. Whatever let them be weird I was going to go see my best friend. I walked down the street to Lilly's house upon arriving I knocked on the door and Mrs. Fayer Lilly's mom opened the door.
"Hey, Mrs. Fayer is Lilly home?" I ask hoping that she was.
"Lilly?" she says with a questioning voice.
"Yeah Lilly your daughter."
"I don't understand I don't have a daughter Avery you know this. Are you alright?"
"You're in on this too. Did my parents put you up to this?"
"I don't know what you mean."
"Lilly!" I call into the house Ignoring Mrs. Fayer. "Lilly?"
"Avery would you stop I don't know this Lilly you want to talk to but she sure as heck ain't here. Now if you could go home or at least get off of my porch that would be appreciated." I step backward off of the porch staring at Mrs. Fayer in confusion as she shuts the door on me. Now I know that something isn't right or something is going on that I am not supposed to know about.
I grab out my phone and text several of mine and Lilly's friends asking them if they have seen her or know where she is or might be. After a few minutes, I started getting responses and they all were saying they didn't know who I was talking about and asked if I was feeling ok when I text yelled at them.
What is going on there is no way that my parents have everyone in on this they don't know all of my friends. Maybe Lilly is planning something that is an explanation right, or maybe not why would she have everyone pretend that she didn't exist. I was going to get to the bottom of this whatever it was.
Several weeks went by and Still nothing about Lilly I tried to call the police about a missing person but they had been told by my parents not to listen to me about anyone named Lilly. I started to gather stuff that could help I put it on one of my walls I was going to find out what happened to Lilly no matter how long it took.
One day I was in my room looking over the wall of evidence and ideas and whatnot that could help me but in all honesty, there wasn't much there to go on to prove that she was real. I had just had an outburst of throwing my book across the room when my parents came into my room.
"Avery sweetie how about you take a break from all of that and we can go for a car ride maybe clear your mind and help you think maybe then you can make some more headway on your search for this Lily person." My mom's voice was unusually soft and comforting I should have taken that as a bad sign but for some reason I agreed to go with my parents on a drive and soon regretted it.
"Where are we driving to?" I ask from my spot in the back seat of our van.
"It doesn't matter at the moment sweetie we will be there shortly." That is when I saw it in the distance the place that hardly anyone ever came out of Bellevue Mental Asylum.
"Why the heck are we doing here!" I yell at my parents who flinch at the sudden increase in noise.
"You are not in the right state of mind for weeks you have been going on about finding this nonexistent girl you claim was your best friend."
"She does exist and she is my best friend I am not crazy," I shout as we pull into the parking lot. The building is old and looks creepy almost like an old mansion turned haunted house it was surprising it was still up to code and everything. The car came to a stop and my parents climbed out.
"Come on Avery get out of the car," my dad said somewhat harshly.
"Um how about no, I am not going in that place."
"Come on Avery this is what is best for you."
"You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink," I state simply implying that I was not getting out of this car. Sadly my dad is much stronger than me and easily lifts me up out of the car and throws me over his shoulder.
"Put me down, let go of me, I am not going in that building!" I shout as I slap my dad's back but my attempts at getting released are futile. I am finally put down on my own two feet when we are inside the building.
My dad goes up to the front desk and talks with the receptionist lady and then he points to me and the lady nods hitting a button and a few seconds later two orderlies come into the main lobby area. They quickly exchange some words with the front lady and walk over to me each one grabbing one of my arms they escort me to the back area where there are some ladies they give me clothes which I refuse to put on but they insisted and then forced me into them.
I was not happy at all when I was lad back to the lobby area to see that my parents were nowhere in sight. They just dropped me off and then took off how nice of them. They then lead me to the what you could call the living area but I liked to call the prison cells. The pushed me through the door.
"Hey girly you get a new roommate get acquainted and we'll come get you to eat later." there was a girl sitting on one of the beds facing the wall adding another mark to many that were already there. it looked like whoever she was, was about my age her hair a very light blonde just like Lilly's.
"So why are you in here?" I ask trying to make conversation she sat up straighter at the sound of my voice and whipped around to look at me.
"Avery?" she said her voice quivering.
"Lilly?" I said my voice matching hers
"Oh my Lanta it is you, Avery, you had disappeared and nobody had seemed to remember you I went crazy--"
"Trying to prove that I was real and that you weren't crazy but after a while, they had enough and then brought you here," I finish for her.
"Yeah, how did you know?"
"That is what happened to me."
"I don't know what is going on here but at least we have each other maybe we can make an escape."
"Yeah let's do it," and with that, we start planning how we will get out of this crazy place.
