Mountainview, Washington isn't anything special. The name says it all. We have spectacular views of the mountains and that's about it. It is in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by forests, with a population of about six thousand. I am currently on the 25 minute walk to my high school, admiring the view. The view that I can never seem to get enough of. I am lucky enough to have a car and a license but, I don't mind the walk, it gives me time to clear my head with music and prepare myself for class.

Not many think that this small town has anything to love, but I think that someday, far down the line, I'd like to end up here to start a family of my own. Until then,my dream is to enlist in the Marine Corps and become a nurse and I want to see every inch of this breathtaking world. But, for now I'll take these lush forests, high cliffs and waterfalls. I could stare for hours or more. I really don't like being indoors much, I usually take my school books, walk deep into the forest an set up my hammock. I have a special place that I go to that nobody really knows about. It's a couple miles from my house but I enjoy the run.

Consisting of only six hundred students everyone seems to know each other at my high school and get along fine. Except for me, of course. I try to keep to myself mostly, and I don't seek out attention. It just sometimes feels like I am on the outside looking in, even when I am with my friends, Maya, Jordan and Sorelle.

Maya and Jordan are definitely an item. These two are the epitome of what a relationship should be. They are completely in love, always surprising each other, never seeming to get enough. I always tease them saying that they are soulmates, a match made in heaven. They just smile at each other and giggle to themselves.

But even with them, I keep getting the feeling that they are keeping something from me. Sometimes I overhear the three of them whispering to each other and when I ask about the weird things that they were saying, they wave me off in dismissal, claiming that I heard wrong. It's not just them, my whole school does the same.

Some words that I have heard said often is alpha, and mates. Which, aren't super weird alone but the context is strange. I once asked my parents about these words and after giving each other a look, quickly dismissed me, too. I have become used to pushing down the outsider feeling that I have and am thankful for my amazing friends and family.

Today is my birthday, November thirteenth, a Friday. I am turning 18 and I am a senior. My family surprised me with a delicious plate of pancakes this morning and a promise to celebrate more tonight.

As I approach the school, Maya and Jordan run up and ambush me in lung collapsing hug.

"Happy Birthday, Evie!" they screamed in my ears, still holding me tight.

"Thank you! Thank you! Now Let me go before I suffocate!" I yelled back. They finally release me from their vice like grip and we start walking up to the school as I pulled my headphones out of my ears. "Hey, where's Sorelle?"

Maya smirks and we simultaneously yell "LATE!" Sorelle is definitely the free spirit of the group, she doesn't take timelines seriously and is super laid back.

"So how does it feel to finally be an adult?" Jordan asked, grinning at me because he knows I hate that question that he insists on asking every year.

I rolled my eyes, "It feels like I have to pay taxes and schedule my own doctor's appointments"

He punches my arm lightly laughing. We start talking about the plans for this weekend, they are coming over tonight to celebrate with my family. Maya suddenly takes my arm, stopping me. "Ohhh my..."Maya suddenly takes my arm, stopping me. "You look ravishing darling" she says looking me up and down.
