The next day the team split up again to cover more ground. With their disguises on they could move amongst the northern people undetected and some of them even talked to them, they found out a lot from these people. Most of them didn’t even know the reason for this war and why the king they knew was now outside their gate laying siege to them. Some thought of him as being cruel for doing so others thought that something had been done against him and he was here to claim justice against them but most figured their master, the general had done something to insult the king, probably involving money as they knew just how greedy the guy was and the king had come to claim the money back and bring justice to the general and they didn’t want no part in the battle but they were being forced to fight. Those in the western quarter were down hearted by the fact that a large amount of their food stores had been burned in the night but even more than that, the general wasn’t going to lift a finger to help them recover and in a few days most of their food will be used up and they would have to venture to other areas of the castle to get it.
From the soldiers they found out about the captains, some of them were good, most were bad or corrupt. Once they found them, they carefully watched them to see what patterns they took and where they lived so that they could be targeted and killed later. As they explored the castle they got a better picture of where things were positioned and what they could target next to make the citizens even more on edge and have less morale. The only problem was getting into the keep, which was very heavily guarded and they saw that everyone who was going in was checked over by the guards so that wasn’t an option for them, they couldn’t sneak past those guards. Once the light was beginning to fade they all returned to the base of operations and shared what they had learned that day with the captain.
“You all have done a good job today, the information you have gathered is very useful to us. The castle is on a knife edge all we need to do is give it a little push and they shall fall. Tonight we shall act again, to create even more chaos and to demoralise them even more. We shall do this with four prongs, the first shall be in the south near the main gate where they had store oil and ammunition for the soldiers above. Brook, ginger and a few of my men at arms will take this building out, again make it look like an accident, we don’t want them to know we are in the castle just yet or our job will be a lot harder. Rivers, dwarf and a couple of my men at arms will be in the north and taking care of some blacksmiths who are making weapons, armour and ammunition for the soldiers, we don’t want them to be able to resupply the south armoury with it being taken out. Myself and the rest of my men will be in the west and will take care of captains O’Brian and Augustus. The rest of you will be in the east taking care of captains Willow and Thomos, I don’t care how you do it, just don’t get caught. Are we clear?” The captain asked.
“Yes sir” the men replied.
“Good, eat and then go to your objectives” The captain said, they ate quickly and left to go do their missions. Simon went with the others to the east side of the castle, they moved quickly and were soon outside the house where captain Willow lived.
“How are we going to do this?” He asked.
“You aren’t going to do anything boy, we are going to sneak in there and kill this captain Willow” the bear said.
“Well no actually I suggest Simon keeps a look out for guards while we do the killing and to warn us if any come close” Prince Charming said.
“I like your way of thinking prince, you ok with this boy?” the bear asked.
“It’s fine with me” Simon replied and he moved to a location where he had a good view of the streets and the house. The rest of them went into the house and though he didn’t know what happened inside a few minutes later they came out again with smiles on their faces. They moved on to the next target who didn’t go to his house often but stayed on the wall to monitor the situation and keep an eye on his men. They saw that he was on the wall, walking along it, once they got there.
“This one is going to be a lot trickier” the bear said.
“That it is, nut I have an idea” Prince Charming replied and the two of them whispered together for a few minutes.
“Boy, you ready to kill a man?” The bear asked.
“I have been in the battles you know, I’ve killed my fair share” Simon replied.
“Sure you have, but this one ain’t in battle so it will be murder, plus it’s dangerous, he’s out in the open on that wall with other soldiers which you will have to get past and then escape, ones the deed is done” the bear said.
“True, but I will do what is necessary” Simon replied.
“Good on you boy, use this knife to gut him” the bear said and handed over a sharp looking knife. Simon nodded and he set off to the wall, it was easy enough to get on it and get past the other soldiers, who fought that he was just one of them, dressed as he was. The captain was standing on one part of the wall looking out when he heard someone step close to him, he looked around and saw Simon was there, he nodded and carried on staring out. Simon quickly whipped out the knife and slit the captain’s throat, who went down quickly and withered on the floor as his life blood flowed out of him. By this time, the other soldiers had noticed what Simon had done and were approaching with drawn swords, this didn’t even face Simon, who threw the knife and hit a soldier in the eye and drew his own sword. He fended them off for a few minutes, killing a couple of them, but mostly he injured them. This made the other weary to approach him which was what he wanted as now he could escape. He picked up one of the dead guards and held it in front of him like a shield and then he jumped off the wall, he landed on the body and was stunned a bit but he still got up and run off. He met up with the others back at the base of operations, making sure that he wasn’t followed. They all told the captain what had happened and he was fairly impressed with the way they handled the task he gave them and though the way they had killed the last captain was very risky, especially if Simon had been caught, it was a job well done and now it was time for them to rest as they had more to do tomorrow.
