***Ferris' POV
"I'm so excited, I can, can, can barely stand it, Grammy."
"Me too, dear," she says, glancing at me through the rearview mirror with a smile.
I huff out a frustrated breath at my dumb stutter and I turn my head to look out the rain-spotted window. There are puddles on the street and sidewalks from last night's storm and the sky looks like it could start pouring rain again any second.
I'm okay with the rain, but the thunder and lightning can just go away. I know Jelly Bean would appreciate that, too. My poor baby.
Sighing, I reach over to the cup holder and grab my orange soda that I still have left from lunch. While I sip the yummy orangy goodness, I can't help but smile because even though the weather is cold and wet, today has been the best day ever.
While Grammy made breakfast for us, I drew pictures with Papaw and Janelle, then later, Grammy and I had a fun lunch at my favorite place and now we're on our way to see Mom and Dad at the hospital.
I know Dad is taking real good care of Mom, but I'm still worried about her. Even before she told me that she had cancer, I could tell something was wrong, but I just thought she had a cold or something.
Never in my craziest dreams would I think she'd have cancer.
Even though Mom promised that the doctors would take all of the cancer out, I've been worried about her. Grammy and Papaw have tried hard to get my mind off of worrying, but I just can't help it.
I'm worried about my mom because I love her so much and that's why I was so happy when Grammy told me that we're going to surprise her at the hospital today.
We even got her a cute little teddy bear with flowers and a balloon to cheer her up and I brought some of the pictures I drew this morning to give to her. She always goes on and on about how good my drawings are and how much she loves them, so I know they'll make her feel better.
The gurgling sound from my soda cup and straw startles me a little and I feel the van come to a slow stop. Setting my empty cup back in the holder, I lean over to look out the front window and smile.
"We're here," Grammy happily says and I unbuckle myself from the booster seat. "I'll carry the gifts for your mother if you carry your backpack."
"Deal," I hop down from the seat and fit my backpack's straps over my shoulders before pressing the button to open the sliding door.
"Wait for me, please."
"Alright," I sigh, impatiently shifting my weight in my pink rainboots.
While I wait, my fingers fidget at my jeans and pink Supergirl hoodie because I'm just so excited to see Mom. I haven't seen her in forever, well, it's been two days, but it still feels like forever.
"Ready, dear?" Grammy asks with a smile, holding out her hand for mine.
"Yep!" I hop down and I press the button to close the door.
And we start walking across the parking lot.
There are a lot of cars, probably because other family members are visiting their loved ones who have had surgery just like Mom.
I bet they didn't draw pictures or pick out a cute little bear, flowers and a balloon to cheer them up like I did for Mom.
The whooshing sound of the big sliding doors opening brings me out of my thoughts and we walk into the hospital. I inhale a big breath, scrunching my nose at the weird smell and I wipe my nose on my sleeve.
