As it stars to get dark we decide it’s better to sleep than to try to leave now; it’s always more dangerous out at night. I can’t sleep, even knowing that for once I’m not alone and that I don’t need to watch my back every second. Taking a flash light and my lyric book I slip away, sitting down in another room so not to disturb the others I lay out my book and pear at the unfinished lyrics in front of me.

I’m sitting here wishing for something’s that missing

I’m waiting for you to tell me

That time keeps on passing

I’m hoping, I’m asking

To stand by your side

At least for tonight

Taking my pen I scribble down here, my hand writing messy my only light the fash light I have balanced in my left hand.

Let’s follow through with this reckless dream

That tearing me up inside

And all the time we’ve been so innocent

So don’t you go I’ve got you where I want you

And I’m never letting go

Hit the lights we’ll be all right

Tonight our dreams come true

The lyrics come as I dream of a world that is no more, of a night that will never happen, of a love story lost.

Now let’s take our chances

Please give me your answer

It’s all up to you so take me away

We’ve waited for so long

I can’t say it feels wrong to close my eyes

When all I see is you

Let’s follow through with this reckless dream

It’s tearing me up inside

And all the time we’ll make it seem

Like we have nothing left to hide

So don’t you go I’ve got you where I want you

And I’m ever letting you go

Hit the lights we’ll be all right

Tonight our dreams come true

I snap out of my writing day dream by a scream. Grabbing my gun with my left hand, and the book with my other I ran towards the sound.

“What’s happened?” I ask, running back into the room where Jack and Tay were sleeping, gun in hand, only to find Tay crying in Jack’s arms.

“She had a nightmare” Jack says, stroking Tay’s hair behind her ear.

“Oh” I drop my gun and go to sit beside her.

“Where were you?” Jack asks.

“Oh just the other room, I couldn’t sleep and I didn’t want to wake you guys” I say, why putting the book over my sleeping bag and away from prying eyes. Jack nods and turns his attention back to Tay, who’s stopped crying.

“It’s was horrible, there were so many zombie and I couldn’t.... I couldn’t get away”

“Shh it’s okay, it’s only a dream” Jack coos. Soon Tay falls back asleep in Jack’s arms and he carefully puts her back in her sleeping back, making sure not to wake her.

“Does she get nightmares a lot?” I ask softly.

“Yeah... She was with them you know, her friends when they got... attacked”

“Oh... That’s fucked up”

“Yeah” he agrees getting back into his own sleeping bag. I decide it’s pointless to go back to writing now and instead get in my sleeping bag beside Jack.

“Alex?” Jack asks softly after a few minutes. “Who did you lose?”

I don’t answer, I just pretend I’ve fallen asleep.

As I open my eyes again I’m met by a bright light, I groan loudly and pull the sleeping bag over my head.

“Morning sleepy head” peaking my head out I can see Tay sitting around the little stove, a hot mug in her hands.

“Morning” I grumble, sitting up and rubbing the little sleep out of my eyes.

“Not a morning person huh?” she asks, handing me a mug of something.

“How’d you guess?” I ask, taking a sip. It tasted hot but bitter and somewhat familiar. It takes me a minute to realise its coffee, it had been so long since I’ve tasted it.

“You feeling better?” I ask.

“Yeah, yeah it was just a nightmare”

“You seemed really scared”

“Aren’t we all?” she asks, as I realise how quiet it is I notice Jack is nowhere to be seen.

“Hey, where’s Jack?” She points at pile of blankets next to me, it’s only then I see the piece of blonde hair sticking out.

 “Oh” I laugh.

Finishing what little breakfast we have, we start to pack our things into bags leaving Jack still sleeping peacefully, only he could sleep through the end of the world.

“It’s strange but I’m going to miss this place” Tay says. “It’s kind of been a home for the past few weeks”

“I can’t remember what home feels like anymore” I mutter.

“With us” Tay says, putting her hand on my shoulder. “We’re at home as long as we’re together” I smile.

“Mmmrrr you guys are loud” comes Jack’s muffled voice from under his pile of blankets.

“And you Jack could sleep through the end of the world” I say, throwing a my shoe at his head.

“Hey!” he calls, trying to throw it back and missing my miles.

After waiting for a groggy Jack to pack his things, we load our guns and make our way to the outside.

“Wait” I say before we’re even out the doors. “Do you we even know which way to go?”

“Ah that’s why I have this” Jack taps his back pocket, all I see if a piece of white paper sticking out the top.

“And that is?”

“A map”

“You know how to read a map?”

“God, you two are like a old married couple. We need to move” Tay complains before stepping out of store and into the already warm morning air. I take a deep breath and follow, Jack bringing up the behind.
