"yes, go on Sophie. none of us will hurt you for what you have to say. sometimes only children like yourself tell the truth of what they see and hear. from the mouthes of babes it's often called." Acacia was acting how Dakota knew her, regal. it wasnt strange but to Sophie it was frightening. she was unused to adults taking her seriously or asking her questions.
"my momma used to talk about you in her sleep and with papa about men who changed into wolves, a man wolf who could talk in wolf form, men who could never die, a man who wasnt able to die but could make magic and two other men she called Trent and Micheal or her boys." looking past Sophie to Devlin with shock she couldnt say anything. this little girl knew a lot that no one knew.
"um even with being side tracked we only have this time of uninterruptedness for a few minutes longer so we need to move on to the issue at hand." james grunted as one of his ribs healed and made a weird noise as it moved back.
"yes," Devlin began, "the wolves have been tracking a rouge vampire who they believe has been hunting children specifically. collectors have gone out to investigate the truth of it before anything is done. Acacia we've also been requested to join the pack for a celebration, Dakota would you be so kind as to accompany Satina and Sophie?"
"i can but i would suggest having Sophie join us at another time. if i go by instinct it's to celebrate the new moon which children under 14 are rounded up and moved to a lodge outside of camp to keep them safe. in camp things can get a little dangerous but it is so much fun." Dakota said looking to Acacia to back him up.
"he's right but if we leave soon we can make it there before dinner and be back in time for christophe's arrival with your father." Acacia wasnt helping him very much. Dakota sighed. they were going to have to get Sophie cleaned up first though because they were going to have to go to the fey courts.
"come girls we have to go change and so do the men." Acacia danced towards the door hand in hand with Sophie and Satina following behind the two girls without a care.
"what is she talking about change?" james asked. they weren't going to like it at all.
"my turn to dress you." Dakota said thinking of how entertaining it was going to be to see them in his style of clothing. nearly laughing as he saw the look of hatred in their eyes. revenge is sweet especially when its actually even, almost.
"why?"
"we have to go to the fey courts and they dont do fancy. they do the natural look. you'll understand when you see the girls, Acacia is going to be the exception. she'll look like your worst nightmare." Dakota smiled about the first time he'd seen her in camp after she was sent to the fey camps to train. every one of the male wolves dreamed of being her wolf and a few even more. she was one of the few from the group she started with that was still alive. what she looked like in full fey was nothing less than intimidating even to the male fey. some of the wolfs joked about trying to mate her or if she mated with an alpha and they power that the pack would have.
taking them to his rooms he had Devlin and james stand there as he figured out how to make it work. they were both built differently than him and wouldnt fit very many of his court clothes. pulling out the white and peach clothes they groaned as he threw different things at them to try on. none of which did fit.
"please tell me you have loose white clothes, doesn't matter as long as they are solid white." Dakota said having run out of things to throw at them and realising that they would have to get a fey tailor in to make sure that they all had the clothes the would need in the future.
"yes, why didnt you say so. that was the style of Satina's wedding the first time. white, lose fitting and comfortable." james said laughing. it was like he had taken a bucket of water and dumped it over his head.
"Satina's married?" Dakota asked disappointed. he didn't think he could see her as a married women.
"not anymore. he was human and didnt survive the change. they were married maybe a month. i cant really remember much about him because it was such a long time ago." Devlin said picking up his jacket.
"interesting man if i remember correctly. he was a man of science but choose to stay as far as he could from other scholars like himself. he was convinced that if a single man, woman or couple chose to live without any of the comforts or technology of the day that they in turn would live longer and happier than the normal person. not that hard to do for the times but it was a hard lfe. he was very much into folklore and tried to figure them out too. he was working on a vampire one when he met Satina." james continued as he left. the brothers knew more than he thought they might but it wasnt enough. forcing himself to change into what he needed to, Dakota had to fight to not let his mind wander to her. it was a struggle.
"Acacia wanted me to let you know we'll meet you in the courtyard." Satina whispered realizing she'd walked in at a bad moment. holding a shirt mid way through putting it on above his head he had his sculpted and perfectly proportioned back to her. she fought the urge to run her hands over it.
"thank you for letting me know." he said sounding agitated. almost weak from just the sight of him she was confused when he sounded angry. taking one last look at his gloriously shaped body she left him alone. thinking that the brothers must've pissed him off somehow. he mind kept shifting back to him and no matter how she tried she kept seeing the concern in his eyes from earlier when he almost knocked her over.
listening for the sudtle sounds of her walking away, Dakota couldnt face seeing her righ now. he needed to be calm and have no real thoughts of her other than that she was there. his mind kept wandering though. he wanted to hold her and burry his face into her hair and taste every inch of her ivory body. gripping the foot board of his bed he felt the wood under his hands condense and crackle. his anger sparked suddenly and a memory he hated was before him tightening his chest and making it impossible to breathe.
"you cant have anyone freak. wolves and fey mixing is wrong." a boy from his past reminded him. things hadn't worked with Alpha and she was a wolf so he had no hope of it working with Satina. it was unfair how all the wolves wanted a fey lover but not a mate so when it happened it was hard to imagine that it was bad. I confused him.
"i'm the only one who will ever love you Dakota. no matter what i do you know it's true so you'll never leave me, its a simple fact." the voice of alpha whispered in his mind. he had left her though and she was wrong about him because she never really did love him, just used him to get more attention. growling he knew his anger was slipping. he was going to lose it.
"help me." Dakota whispered as he clutched his chest and collapsed into a seizer. closing his eyes he kept calling for help with the little fey powers he had as his body spazmed uncontrollably. someone please come he hoped.
"Dakota?!" a voice rang out saving him from his mental break and blackness. he felt himself being lifted into a chill that surrounded him but also comforted him like no other.
"ACACIA!" it was Satina, why was she here? she was holding him like she actually cared about him, like a lover might he hoped. her hands were comforting and she held him close to her heart worrying.
"is he having another seizer? shit yes." Acacia came running in stopping dead in her tracks for some reason. trying to open his eyes he was hit by the final convulsion that exhausted him because it drew on all of his strength. wolf and fey.
